Feel your feelings AND REMEMBER, other people have feelings too!!

Emotional regulation isn’t just noticing what’s happening inside of you. It’s noticing that the people around you have their own inner world too.

Not every hard feeling is a problem to solve. Sometimes people just need room to be heard, understood, and not fixed. The same space we hope others give us, we can practice offering back.

It’s never one-sided.

When you’re with someone who’s having a hard time, what’s harder for you? Sitting with their feelings or resisting the urge to fix them?

We say “feel your feelings” all the time, but what does that actually look like?

Sometimes it looks like sitting yourself down long enough to notice what’s happening instead of immediately trying to push through it. Paying attention to what you’re feeling in your body, the thoughts that are coming up, and what emotions might be present can give you more information about what you need.

There may be times when you immediately know where a feeling came from. That’s where delayed processing can show up. Our feelings don’t always arrive at the same time as the experience. Sometimes we need a little more time to process what happened before we realize how it actually made us feel.

You don’t have to have the whole story figured out to acknowledge what’s happening in your body and care for yourself through it. Sometimes you just have to slow down, pay attention, and give yourself space to figure out what you need.

And yes…even as a therapist, sometimes I have to sit myself down and do the same thing I teach my clients. 😂

One of the harder parts of being in relationship with other people is accepting that who they are today may not be who they’ve always been.

We get used to people in certain roles. We learn how they communicate, what they tolerate, how they show up and even what we can expect from them. So when those things begin to shift, it can change the rhythm of a relationship we’ve grown comfortable with.

HOWEVER, being in community with people requires some room for them to become. That doesn’t mean every change has to work for you or that every relationship is meant to continue in the same way. It does mean we can be mindful of how quickly we make someone’s growth about what it changes for us.

On the flip side, changing doesn’t mean everyone around you will immediately know how to relate to you differently. Sometimes people need grace while they learn you again, too.

Maybe part of loving people well is allowing them to become someone you haven’t met yet.

It’s easy to make growth all about what still needs your attention. You can spend so much time thinking about what needs to change, what you’re still healing from, what you’re working toward and where you want to go next that you miss what’s happening right now.

There is value in doing the work, but there also has to be space to experience the life you’re working so hard to create.

Joy is part of the work too!!

That can mean allowing yourself to celebrate what’s going well without immediately moving the goalpost. It can mean being present for the moments you once hoped for, making time for what makes you feel good and letting something be good without searching for what still needs fixing.

Growth doesn’t require you to constantly be in a state of working on yourself. You can continue healing, learning and becoming while also enjoying who you are and what’s already here.

So yes, keep doing the work. Just make sure you’re leaving room to enjoy it too.

Another milestone on my Road to Supervision! 🎉🥳

The training portion of this journey is officially complete, and I have my certificate in hand!

Beyond completing the requirements, this experience gave me an opportunity to think more intentionally about the kind of supervisor I want to be. It’s helped me reflect on how I want to support clinicians as they develop their own voice, trust themselves in their work and learn how to care for themselves while caring for others.

There’s something special about reaching this point in my career. I get to take what I’ve learned, experienced and grown through and use it to support someone else as they find their own way.

I’m proud of this one. 🥹

The Road to Supervision continues… now it’s time to go get that “S”! 😂

Sometimes we’re so focused on getting to the other side that we forget there’s value in giving ourselves room to simply be where we are.

That space gives us an opportunity to notice what’s coming up, process what we’ve been carrying and get curious about the patterns or reactions we may not fully understand yet. It also gives us room to offer ourselves grace while we figure things out.

There can be so much pressure to make sense of our experiences quickly and know what comes next. We want to feel like we’ve moved on, healed or grown from what happened, but understanding doesn’t always happen on our timeline.

Sometimes clarity comes after we’ve given ourselves enough room to sit with what’s actually there.

Not every part of healing needs to be rushed toward a resolution. Some things need space before they need an answer.

Yesterday morning I talked about being intentional about the tone you set for your week. A few hours later, I got a flat tire... and my favorite sunglasses broke. 😂

Life has a funny way of presenting opportunities to practice the very things we talk about.

Setting the tone for your day isn’t about convincing yourself that nothing will go wrong. It’s about deciding that when something does, it doesn’t get to dictate how you move through the rest of it. The flat tire still happened. My sunglasses were still broke. But neither one got to decide the tone of my day.

Maybe that’s the real practice.

What’s something that has tested your perspective recently, and how did you respond?

Some of the smallest choices we make each day are opportunities to practice intention.

It’s all in the details. The way we begin our week may seem small, but I’ve learned that intentionality has a way of shaping how we move through it. We can’t control everything that happens, but we can choose the tone we set before the week ever asks anything of us.

Maybe it’s just the therapist in me. 😂

Now tell me I’m not the only one?! 🤭Do you have a little ritual like this? A favorite mug, a playlist, a perfume, an outfit, or something else that helps you start your week with intention?

P.S. If you’re wondering about the outfit, it’s from FashionNova.com I actually turned the collared shirt around and tucked the collar because today’s mood called for this neckline instead. The original way is cute too! Love this set!! You can find it in my ShopMy link in bio!

Healing is not a one-size-fits-all process.

The work is not just about what happened to you. It’s about understanding how your experiences have shaped the way you move through the world, connect with yourself, and navigate life.

I believe healing requires space. Space to reflect, space to process and space to be curious about yourself without judgment.

My role is not to tell you who to become. It’s to help you reconnect with who you are beneath the layers you’ve had to carry.

So yes, I’ll continue asking the questions that invite you inward, making room for silence, and reminding you to offer yourself grace as you unlearn and grow.

Because healing is not about becoming someone new… it’s about coming home to yourself.
