Starting therapy can feel like a big adventure, and sometimes a little scary too. 💙

To help make those first steps feel a little more comfortable, our newest child clients will receive a therapy teddy bear to take along on their journey. These cuddly companions are here to offer comfort, support, and a friendly face as children begin building trust, expressing emotions, and discovering that therapy can be a safe space just for them.

Here at RVA Counseling, we believe healing happens best when children feel welcomed, supported, and understood from the very beginning.

✨ Because every great adventure deserves a trusted companion.

Men's mental health doesn't always look the way people expect.

Sometimes it shows up as irritability instead of sadness. Exhaustion instead of stress. Isolation instead of asking for help.

Many men spend so much time taking care of responsibilities, work, and family that they overlook the signs that they're struggling themselves.

If any of these signs feel familiar, consider it an opportunity to check in with yourself—not a reason for judgment. Mental health challenges are common, and support can make a meaningful difference.

This Men's Mental Health Month, let's continue the conversation and remind ourselves that seeking help is a sign of self-awareness and strength.

You don't have to wait until things get worse to reach out.

💙 RVA Counseling is here to support you every step of the way.

📍 Serving individuals, couples, and families throughout the Richmond community.

💚 June is PTSD Awareness Month 💚

Trauma can leave lasting effects long after a difficult experience has ended. PTSD is not a sign of weakness, and it doesn't only affect veterans—it can impact anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event.

Many people living with PTSD struggle with symptoms such as anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, emotional distress, difficulty trusting others, or feeling constantly "on alert." While these experiences can feel isolating, healing is possible.

At RVA Counseling, we understand that healing from trauma isn't about "getting over it"—it's about feeling safe enough to process it. Through compassionate therapy, meaningful connection, and evidence-based treatment, we help individuals move from surviving to healing.

This PTSD Awareness Month, let's replace stigma with understanding, judgment with compassion, and silence with support.

You don't have to carry your story alone. 💚

🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride Month from all of us at RVA Counseling! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍

This month, we celebrate the courage, authenticity, resilience, and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community.

At RVA Counseling, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and supported exactly as they are. Pride is more than a celebration—it's a reminder of the importance of acceptance, belonging, and creating spaces where individuals can show up as their authentic selves without fear or judgment.

We are proud to support our LGBTQIA+ clients, colleagues, families, and community members not only during Pride Month, but every day of the year.

Whether you're celebrating your identity, supporting a loved one, or continuing your journey of self-discovery, know that you are welcome here.

Fatherhood often means being the one others lean on—but who's supporting you?

Whether you're a father, stepfather, grandfather, mentor, or caregiver, the responsibility of caring for others can be both meaningful and overwhelming.

This Men's Mental Health Month, we're encouraging fathers and father figures to make space for their own well-being. Taking care of your mental health isn't a luxury—it's an important part of being present for the people who matter most.

Checking in with yourself, setting healthy boundaries, asking for support, and prioritizing self-care are signs of strength, not weakness.

If you're carrying more than you should alone, know that help is available.

💙 You deserve the same care and compassion you give to others.

Many men are taught to be strong, push through challenges, and handle problems alone. But true strength includes knowing when to ask for support.

This Men’s Mental Health Month, let’s challenge the stigma and create space for honest conversations about stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, and emotional well-being.

Seeking help is not a sign of weakness—it’s a step toward healing.

💙 You don’t have to carry everything by yourself.
