: The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center Mobile Mammo+ team was proud to participate in the Placer Breast Cancer Foundation's annual Hot Pink Fun Run recently!

We joined the event to express our gratitude for the foundation's generous support of the Mobile Mammo+ Program and UC Davis breast cancer research overall. Their sponsorship has helped make it possible for our first three mobile clinics in Placer County to provide free mammograms to uninsured and underinsured community members, expanding access to lifesaving breast cancer screening.

Our team of breast radiologists, physicists, physicians, and residents laced up their running shoes as the "Rad Runners," while Mobile Mammo+ staff welcomed attendees aboard the mobile clinic for tours and shared information about breast health and cancer screening.

Thanks to community support, we're bringing state-of-the-art 3D mammography closer to those who need it most, helping reduce barriers to care and improve access to early detection services throughout Placer County. Early detection saves lives!

UC Davis Health offers free mammograms during Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Mammograms can help detect breast cancer early, when treatment is most effective. But for many who are uninsured or underinsured, the cost of a routine screening can be a barrier.

During this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, UC Davis Health is once again offering free mammograms to improve access to lifesaving screening. The program is made possible by the UC Davis Radiology and UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. The screening mammograms are open to members of the community who do not have insurance or who have insurance but can’t afford the cost or the copay. If you've been putting off your annual screening mammogram, this is your reminder.

Breast radiologist Anne Darrow answers some of the most common questions she hears from patients.

"Breast cancer, when caught early, has a survival rate of greater than 99%," says Dr. Darrow.

Dr. Darrow recommends annual screening mammograms starting at age 40 for those with average risk. For those with a higher risk of developing breast cancer, screening may start earlier, making it important to talk with your doctor about personal risk factors.

She also encourages monthly self-exams to help you become familiar with your body. If you notice a lump, ni**le changes, discharge or changes in your underarm area, talk to your doctor about whether additional images may be needed. 🩷

Text reads: "Ask the doctor: mammograms." "Are mammograms painful?" and "What is a mammogram?"

UC Davis Health experts have been using two innovative technologies together to improve lung biopsies with real-time 3D imaging. They’ve been catching more lung cancers at stage 1 than ever before.

Our UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center Mobile Mammo+ Team was thrilled to take part in the recent Marshall Divide Health Fair in Georgetown! We were able to provide free mammograms for more than two dozen individuals at the event thanks to our mobile bus, which contains state-of-the-art screening equipment. Early detection of breast cancer saves lives. That’s why it’s important to make sure that individuals 40 and older are screened annually. Our Mobile Mammo+ has been traveling to different locations to help uninsured and underinsured women get those screenings. Thanks to all who took part in this wonderful community event!
