So much of our work happens beneath the surface: caring, reflecting, learning, holding complexity, and building connection. This Labor Day, we’re honoring that work by investing in the people doing it, too.

Our next Professional Development Group begins September 18 and meets virtually on the 3rd Friday of each month from 12:00–1:30 PM PST. This 4-month series includes 6 CEs and offers a space to learn, reflect, and stay connected in community.

Caring for the planet is something we weave into everyday life.
In the choices we make,
and the future we help create
Because, while the planet may continue
we cannot continue without her

There is a rhythm of harmony, of reciprocity
of remembering we are not separate from the earth or each other
What becomes possible when we relate to the earth
as something we are connected to
something that sustains us, teaches us,
and responds to how we live?

At Narrative Initiatives San Diego, as we witness the impacts of climate change—wildfires, rising waters, and shifting lands
we’re listening for the stories that bring us back into connection and community:
with the earth,
with each other,
and with ways of living that honor healthy relationships between humans and nature,
while holding close the ethical and justice considerations that shape how climate impacts are experienced.

What becomes possible today in how you consume, tend to the earth, or connect to the earth with your community?

We know International Women’s Day was a few days ago. Still, we wanted to pause and recognize the many women who inspire change, courage, creativity, and compassion in the world.
Perhaps part of honoring women also means resisting the idea that appreciation belongs to just one day on the calendar.

Women such as Frida Kahlo, who expressed the depth of human experience through her art, offering a universal exploration of identity, gender, and Mexican heritage; Jane Goodall, whose lifelong work reminds us of our connection to the natural world; Greta Thunberg, who demonstrates the power of young voices speaking up for the planet and social justice; Malala Yousafzai, who continues to advocate for education and the rights of girls; and Sinéad O’Connor, whose music and courage in speaking truth to power opened important conversations around justice, identity, and healing.

Each of these women shows how voices, visions, and collective acts of courage can contribute to meaningful change.
