Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember those whose lives have been lost to overdose, support those grieving, and reaffirm our commitment to saving lives.

Did you know? The Seward Community Health Center is an Opioid Overdose Rescue Kit distribution site through Alaska's Project HOPE program. Naloxone is a safe, easy-to-use medication that can reverse an opioid overdose and help save a life.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we encourage everyone to learn about overdose prevention and the role naloxone can play in emergency situations. Having naloxone available can make the difference between life and death during an opioid overdose.

Visit https://health.alaska.gov/en/services/project-hope-get-naloxone/ to learn more about obtaining naloxone and overdose prevention resources.

August is Alaska HPV Vaccination Month. The Seward Community Health Center is joining partners across the state to raise awareness about the HPV vaccine and its role in preventing cancer.

HPV is a common virus that affects about 4 out of 5 people at some point in their lives, and the HPV vaccine can prevent more than 90% of HPV-related cancers when given at the recommended ages. The vaccine helps protect against six types of cancer and is recommended for youth starting at ages 9-12.

Protecting Alaska's kids today can help prevent cancer tomorrow. Talk with your healthcare provider about HPV vaccination and make sure your family stays up to date on recommended immunizations.

❀️ Thank You, Seward Community Foundation! ❀️

The Seward Community Health Center is grateful to have received a grant from the Seward Community Foundation to purchase a new EKG machine and restore reliable onsite cardiac diagnostic services for our patients.

EKGs are an essential diagnostic tool that helps providers quickly evaluate symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, and irregular heart rhythms. Thanks to this funding, SCHC can continue providing timely, high-quality care right here in Seward, reducing delays, minimizing the need for outside referrals, and making healthcare more convenient for our community.

This new equipment will help patients receive important diagnostic testing during a single visit whenever possible, improving patient safety, continuity of care, and access to local healthcare.

This grant is possible through the support of the Seward Community Foundation, an Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation.

Thank you for investing in the health and wellbeing of our community!
