Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who sacrificed everything for our freedom. 🌿

At Evergreen Naturopathic, we believe true wellness is built on the same values our service members embody: resilience, courage, and the will to heal. This Memorial Day, we hold them and their families in our hearts.

To all who have served, and to all who grieve, thank you. 🌺

You Deserve To Be Believed | And You Deserve Real Answers

If you've spent years being dismissed, misdiagnosed, or told your symptoms aren't real, this is for you.

MCAS is not a rare edge case. It is an underrecognized condition affecting countless individuals whose suffering has too often been minimized by a fragmented healthcare system.

Increased awareness among clinicians and the public is essential, and it starts with conversations like this one.

If you're ready to explore a comprehensive, root-cause approach to your health, we're here. Go to our website: www.evergreennaturopathic.com, or give us a call or text at 509-755-5100 to learn more or to schedule a free consultation.

An Integrative Approach To MCAS Treatment: What Does It Actually Look Like?

Integrative care for MCAS is not about rejecting conventional medicine — it's about combining evidence-informed tools from multiple disciplines while continuing to investigate root causes.

A comprehensive approach may include:
— Dietary modification (low-histamine as a starting point)
— Gut health support (barrier integrity, microbiome balance)
— Targeted supplementation (quercetin, vitamin C, omega-3s)
— Nervous system regulation (breathwork, sleep, movement)
— Pharmaceutical support when appropriate (H1/H2 antihistamines, mast cell stabilizers)
— Identification and treatment of underlying triggers

Recovery is rarely linear, but with individualized support, meaningful improvement is possible.

The Nervous System And MCAS: A Critical But Overlooked Link

Mast cells don't just respond to allergens, they respond to your nervous system state.

Many patients with MCAS demonstrate heightened sympathetic activation ('fight-or-flight' dominance), which can directly amplify mast cell reactivity. This is not a character flaw or anxiety disorder, it is a measurable physiologic pattern.

Nervous system regulation is therefore not optional in MCAS care. Breathwork, reparative sleep, gentle movement, time in nature, and trauma-informed care approaches all have a role to play in reducing physiologic reactivity over time.

Healing the nervous system is healing the immune system.

What's Driving Mast Cell Activation? Root Causes Matter🍃

From an integrative medicine perspective, MCAS is rarely an isolated allergic phenomenon. It's often a downstream signal, the body's response to cumulative physiologic stress.

Common contributors include: chronic infections, mold exposure, environmental toxins, intestinal permeability, microbiome disruption, nervous system dysregulation, hormonal imbalances, and chronic psychological stress.

This is why treating MCAS requires looking upstream. Symptom management alone is rarely enough for lasting improvement. Identifying and addressing underlying triggers is where meaningful healing begins.

Why MCAS Is So Hard To Recognize 🔍

One of the biggest challenges with MCAS is that its symptoms are wildly varied, and they often look exactly like other conditions.

Patients may be told they have IBS, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, anxiety, or 'just stress' - sometimes for years, before MCAS is ever considered.

That's because mast cells interact with the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems simultaneously. A single dysregulated mast cell release can affect your gut, heart rate, skin, sinuses, and cognition all at once.

MCAS is not 'all in your head.' It is a genuine physiologic condition with measurable immune signaling and inflammatory dysregulation.

AWARENESS & EDUCATION

Mast cells are immune cells found throughout your body, in your skin, gut, lungs, and brain. When they work properly, they protect you. When they're dysregulated, they can trigger a cascade of symptoms across nearly every organ system.

This is Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), a condition that affects far more people than most realize, yet remains widely misunderstood and underdiagnosed.

Symptoms can include flushing, hives, GI distress, palpitations, brain fog, chemical sensitivities, and more, often fluctuating unpredictably and mimicking other conditions.

This week, we're breaking it all down. Save this post and follow along, or read the full blog post in one sitting by following the link:
