WHAT DO THE STATS SAY ABOUT SU***DE? (part 2)
Su***de is the second-leading cause of death for young people and adults ages 10 to 34.
The overall su***de rate in the United States has decreased slightly from 2022 to 2024 from a peak in 2022, but it remains significantly higher than it was in 2000.
From 2014 to 2024, rates increased 17% among adults ages 18 to 25 and 13% among those ages 26 to 44, while rates were mostly flat or declined among older age groups.
In 2023, 6,398 Veterans died by su***de, which was 44 fewer deaths than in 2022. According to the report, the 2023 total was lower than 14 of the previous 15 years, which reflects recent momentum in su***de prevention efforts.
