Next up in our Resident Spotlight series is Kris, and with students heading back to school, we asked what she remembered about her own school days.

Her answer was pretty quick.

“I HATED school,” she said.

Kris would have much rather been taking care of her horses. But there was one exception. She loved history and earned A’s in her history classes in high school.
That interest eventually led to her favorite job, working as a historic interpreter on Mackinac Island.

For Kris, it was a great fit. She got to combine two things she loved: history and horses.

This week, we’re celebrating National Assisted Living Week!

This year’s theme, “Shining Through the Years,” celebrates the stories, experiences and connections that make each person unique.

Here at the Grand Traverse Pavilions we’ll spend the week celebrating our residents and the staff who support them each day.

We’re looking forward to sharing a little of that celebration with you, too.

Happy National Assisted Living Week!

A cup of coffee. A good conversation. A little time together.

Those everyday moments matter more than we sometimes realize.

Staying socially connected is an important part of healthy aging. Regular connection with family, friends and community can support emotional well-being, keep our minds active and help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.

And sometimes, it’s simply nice to sit together and talk.

Happy Saturday from Grand Traverse Pavilions. 💚

A little back to school fun at the Cottages today!

Our residents enjoyed a back to school themed pizza party, sharing stories, and some time together before wrapping things up with a delicious slice of apple pie. 🍕🥧🍎

A nice afternoon spent together and a fun way to celebrate the back to school season.

Feeling thirsty isn’t always the first sign that you need more water.

As we age, our sense of thirst can become less noticeable, which can make it easier to become dehydrated. Signs can include fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, headache or confusion.

And staying hydrated doesn’t only mean drinking water. Foods can help, too. A juicy pear is an easy fall choice, but soup, cooked squash and warm applesauce can also contribute to your daily fluid intake.

Healthy aging is often about the little things we do every day.

School is back in session, so we asked a few of our residents to share their best advice for students.

Turns out, good advice doesn't have an expiration date.

We especially like Leona's: Enjoy it.

🎣 Nothing better than a day outside, good company, and a little fishing on Labor Day weekend.

Our residents got out on the water, enjoyed the sunshine, and had a pretty great day doing it. ❤️

What a summer. 💚🎶

To everyone who joined us for Concerts on the Lawn this year, thank you.

Thank you for bringing your lawn chairs, singing along, dancing, visiting with our residents and filling our campus with so much joy each week. We loved seeing familiar faces return week after week and welcoming new friends along the way.

And together, you helped raise more than $75,000 to directly support the work of Grand Traverse Pavilions. That is something worth celebrating!

We also owe a huge thank you to the sponsors who helped make this summer possible:

🎶Serra Volkswagen of Traverse City
🎶Michigan Arts and Culture Council
🎶Prout Financial Design
🎶HomeTown Pharmacy
🎶Cherryland Electric Cooperative
🎶Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home
🎶Hospice of Michigan
🎶CC Jewelers
🎶PNC
🎶Floor Covering Brokers Carpet One

And to the incredible artists who gave us a summer full of music:

🎤 Beach & Buffett
🎤 Gordon Lightfoot Tribute
🎤 NMC Concert Band
🎤 Mighty Tundra Tones
🎤 Miriam Pico & Friends
🎤 Petoskey Steel Drum Band
🎤 Remembering Patsy Cline
🎤 Backroom Gang
🎤 K. Jones & The Benzie Playboys
🎤 Jake Slater

Concerts on the Lawn is special because of this community. Our residents, families, staff, sponsors, artists, volunteers, neighbors and friends all have a part in making these evenings what they are.

From all of us at Grand Traverse Pavilions, thank you, Grand Traverse. We can’t wait to see you back on the lawn next year! 💚
