Client Success Story๐
This child came into our clinic back in October for the first time. Mom is a teacher and saw the struggles he had to go through just to get through his day at school. Teacher concerns were core strength and handwriting, as well as copying things from the board. We did a comprehensive evaluation here for Occupational Therapy and found some underlying things we felt could be the issue, including ocular motor skills, attention/focus due to sensory dis-regulation, and some unintegrated primitive reflexes.
We got right to work, and with his hard work in sessions and support from his parents and teacher, we have seen such tremendous gains that have rolled over into his academics!
This child not only went from a kindergarten reading level to a second grade reading level (on testing) as a 1st grader, but we also learned that he brought his Math FAST score up from a ONE to a FIVE and his ELA FAST from a ONE to a FOUR!! He has also been able to stay away from medication for attention, and is being recognized in class for his hard work!
You see, the issue wasn't that he isn't smart. The issue was that he didn't have the supports and brain-body connection that he needed to focus on the tests and really show us what he knew. Once he started making those brain-body connections, and his team provided him with some sensory supports, he was finally able to thrive in school!
We are so proud of our friend and how hard he has worked this year.๐
So, if your child is struggling in school, feeling defeated and just surviving their day, there may be something going on at a deeper level. Occupational Therapy is a great resource to help you find the root cause and provide supports to help your child thrive.
