“Listen to your body” is good advice — but it has one blind spot. Some of the most important things happening inside you make no sound at all.
High blood pressure usually has no symptoms. Neither does rising blood sugar, or the slow narrowing of arteries. Your body can feel completely fine while something measurable quietly drifts in the wrong direction. And by the time you can feel it, the easiest window to act has sometimes already passed.
That’s the case for paying attention even when nothing seems wrong. Not out of worry- but because the most treatable version of almost any condition is the one caught early, before it ever announces itself. A number noticed now is something you get to fix slowly, with small changes, instead of urgently later.
It’s also why a check-up isn’t just for when something hurts. You already know you feel fine. The real value is catching the things you can’t feel, while they’re still easy to change.
Your body is honest about how it feels. It’s just not always up to date.
When was your last check-up?
