Purpose has a way of making inconvenience feel necessary.

When you’re clear about what you’re building, what you’re responsible for, and who benefits if you follow through, motivation becomes less important.

Some things are worth getting up for.

Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer.

It exists because workers fought for fair wages, safer conditions, reasonable hours and the right to be treated with dignity on the job.

A reminder worth keeping: many of the workplace protections we now consider normal were once demands people were told were unreasonable.

Happy Labor Day.

At some point, growth requires you to stop being loyal to versions of yourself that were built for circumstances you’ve already outgrown.

What once protected you can confine you. What once made sense can become what's keeping you from moving forward.

You can honor who you were without continuing to live as you previously have.

Not everything you need to quit is a job, relationship or friendship.

Sometimes it’s a habit of thought that has overstayed its welcome.

Which one needs to go first?

Stop asking for a blessing on something you already know you were supposed to walk away from.

The job you keep praying will finally become what it has repeatedly shown you it is not.

The relationship you keep hoping will suddenly become healthy.

The friend you keep making excuses for.

The rooms where you keep shrinking yourself just to feel welcomed.

The organization, community, or church that keeps requiring you to abandon pieces of yourself to belong.

Sometimes the question isn’t, “How do I make this work" it is , “Why am I still trying to make this work?”

We spend so much time asking for a sign when the pattern IS the sign.

Making the choice to leave doesn’t always mean failure. Sometimes it means you've finally stopped negotiating with what you already knew.

A question worth asking:
Are you asking for permission to leave… or for a reason to stay?

When an action is clearly wrong (by your own definition), refusing to take a position doesn’t make you impartial and makes you useful to the person who has the most power (in that situation).

I’m not saying you have to openly express your opinion on everything and every situation. I’m saying there’s a difference between not knowing enough to take a position and knowing enough to know that your silence and acceptance is a choice.

Saying, “I don’t want to get involved” is less about peace and more about protecting your proximity to a person, position, group of people, or power.

Be honest with yourself. When you've chosen to remain neutral in a given situation, what (who) exactly are you protecting?

Not everyone who appears unaware is uninformed.

Just hear me out...

Some people aren't always super sweet and act clueless because they're just "good people". They "act" this way because they've learned that people reveal more when they don't feel like they're being observed.

Pay attention.

There’s something I really enjoy about watching young people take an idea and turn it into a business.

Today, I’m heading back to The Shops at Waldorf Center as one of the judges for Youth Shark Tank and I’m looking forward to seeing what these young entrepreneurs bring to the table.

About 30 entrepreneurs, ages 17 and younger, will be showcasing their businesses, products, and services. They’ll then pitch their businesses to us “Sharks” for a chance to win more than $4,000 in cash prizes.

Join me today, August 15th, from 1-5 pm and support the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Come see what the young Sharks are bringing to the tank.

Forgiveness doesn’t always come with reconciliation. Sometimes you can release what happened and still recognize that the relationship, trust, or access can’t be restored. That isn’t bitterness, it's discernment.

It's also growth, choosing peace and self-respect over nostalgia. Just because you’ve healed enough to let it go, doesn’t mean you’re meant to let them back in.
