Congratulations to Danielle Broadway, Operations Manager – Employment Pathways, and Louise Jorgensen, Service Manager – Employment Pathways, who both mark 20 years with Barkuma this year.

At a morning tea held at our South Terrace office, colleagues came together to acknowledge their commitment, leadership and the positive impact they have had on the lives of people with disability, their families, employers and fellow team members over the past two decades.

Thank you, Danielle and Louise, for your dedication to creating opportunities and supporting people to achieve their employment goals. We are proud to celebrate this milestone with you.

Today marks the beginning of Pride Month.

At Barkuma, inclusion means creating environments where people feel respected, valued and able to be themselves. We acknowledge Pride Month and stand with members of our community who identify as LGBTQIA+.

This month is an opportunity to celebrate diversity, recognise the contributions of LGBTQIA+ people, and continue working towards communities and workplaces where everyone belongs.

National Reconciliation Week 2026 calls on all Australians to be All In for reconciliation.

At Barkuma, we are committed to inclusive practices that support respect, connection and opportunity for all people. We recognise that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility and that meaningful change comes through ongoing action, learning and understanding.

This year’s theme reminds us that reconciliation is not something to observe from the sidelines. It requires all of us to work together to build a more inclusive and equitable future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

Going to the movies should be something everyone can enjoy.

More cinemas are offering accessible and inclusive screening options, helping people with disability feel comfortable, supported, and included when watching a film.

Accessible sessions and accommodations help remove barriers. They allow people to relax, enjoy the experience, and take part in something many of us take for granted. Having choice and access means our disability community can enjoy movies in a way that works for them.

We’re excited to launch a new monthly podcast series sharing real conversations from across Barkuma.

Each episode will highlight the experiences of our participants and the people who support them on their journey towards employment, as they build confidence, skills and opportunities through inclusive employment.

Our first episode focuses on Kylie’s employment journey and the support provided by Vanessa, her Job Coordinator, as Kylie transitioned into her role as Communications Coordinator at Barkuma five years ago.

Subscribe now and join us each month as we explore how inclusive employment creates meaningful opportunities and share the experiences that shape the Barkuma community.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day reminds us that everyone experiences the world differently, and inclusion helps all of us thrive. Accessibility isn’t just a feature, it’s a mindset that makes technology, spaces and services easier for everyone to use.

By removing barriers and listening to diverse needs, we create communities where people of all abilities can participate fully. Small changes add up, and the more we learn and improve, the more inclusive our world becomes.

A day to reflect and an even better reason to keep accessibility front of mind all year.
