NMN is one of the most popular longevity supplements in the world. David Sinclair takes it. Andrew Huberman talks about it.

The science behind boosting NAD+ for healthy ageing is compelling — and for general health, it makes sense. But if you have glaucoma, the evidence tells a very different story.

Whatch the full video why NMN may not be as good for your glaucoma.

Dry eyes can do more than make your eyes feel gritty or uncomfortable.

Each blink spreads a smooth layer of tears across the eye, helping keep what you see clear.

When that tear film becomes unstable, words may shift between clear and blurry, even when your glasses prescription is correct.

Your brain then has to work harder to interpret the changing image.

That extra effort may leave you rereading sentences, losing your place or struggling to concentrate after prolonged screen use.

Some of the mental fatigue you feel may be coming from the extra visual work your brain is doing.

Dry eye is not the only cause of brain fog. But if poor concentration appears alongside burning, grittiness or fluctuating vision, your eyes may be part of the puzzle.

Take regular screen breaks, blink fully and arrange an eye examination if the symptoms persist.

Exercise is generally good for your health, including if you have glaucoma. But its effect on eye pressure isn’t the same for every activity.

After aerobic exercise, such as brisk walking or cycling, eye pressure often drops for a short time.
During a heavy lift, especially if you hold your breath, eye pressure can rise temporarily.
Head-down yoga poses can raise it temporarily too.

This explains how a workout might produce a lower pressure reading afterwards, even if pressure rose during part of it.

The practical takeaway is to:
Keep moving
Breathe through exertion
Be mindful of prolonged straining or head-down positions

Exercise has many benefits, but a temporary drop in eye pressure does not mean it can replace glaucoma treatment. Research on its long-term effect on eye pressure is still mixed.

My eye pressure is normal. Why do I still have glaucoma?

In normal-tension glaucoma, the optic nerve shows signs of damage even though eye pressure measures within the usual range.

The surprising part is that “normal” is a range for the population. It isn’t a guarantee that a particular pressure is safe for your optic nerve. Each person’s nerve may tolerate pressure differently. Doctors don’t yet know the exact cause of normal-tension glaucoma, although low blood pressure is associated with a higher risk.

So how can you tell whether it’s getting worse if the pressure reading looks fine?

Eye care professionals compare optic nerve scans and visual field tests over time. These can reveal changes you may not notice in your day-to-day vision.

Lowering eye pressure can still help slow the disease, even when the starting pressure is “normal.” That’s why ongoing treatment and check-ups matter: the goal is to protect your vision over time, not simply to get a normal pressure reading.

When you hear ‘normal eye pressure,’ what do you assume it tells you about your eye health? Share your thoughts below.

Different eye conditions can affect different parts of what you see.

👉 Glaucoma usually damages the optic nerve gradually, often affecting peripheral or side vision first. Because the centre may remain clear until later, a person can still read or recognise faces while missing objects, steps or vehicles approaching from the side.

👉 Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the macula, the part of the retina responsible for detailed central vision. Words, faces and whatever you look at directly may appear blurry, distorted or partly missing, while your side vision remains relatively intact.

📌 Someone with glaucoma may perform well on a standard vision chart but have important gaps in their wider visual field.

📌 Someone with AMD may navigate a room using their side vision but struggle to recognise the face directly in front of them.

Because early damage may not be obvious, regular eye examinations are essential rather than waiting until your vision “looks wrong.”

If you have glaucoma, hearing that stress might raise eye pressure can feel like one more thing to worry about.

In a small study, people with open-angle glaucoma had eye pressure readings about 4 mmHg higher immediately after a psychological stress test than on an earlier test day. Their heart rate, blood pressure and cortisol rose too.

This tells us that stress can affect eye pressure in the short term. It doesn’t mean a difficult day has damaged your optic nerve.

👉 What can you do?
When you feel stress building, try five minutes of gentle, slow breathing. It’s a simple way to help yourself settle.

And if an eye pressure reading is higher than usual, don’t assume stress explains it. Ask your eye specialist how that number compares with your previous readings and whether your optic nerve and visual field tests are stable.

What questions does this raise for you about stress and eye pressure? Leave them below. I’d like to know your thoughts.
