Book Week has officially begun at The Memorial Hospital, bringing a little extra colour, creativity and imagination to Memorial KIDS.

This year, our team took inspiration from The Day the Crayons Quit, with staff dressing as the colourful characters and getting into the Book Week spirit alongside our young patients.

For children spending time in hospital, being part of familiar celebrations like Book Week can bring a welcome sense of normality to their day, with stories, creativity and a little fun providing moments to enjoy beyond their care. And, of course, it’s also a great excuse for our team to get creative and have a little fun of their own!

Behind every procedure is a theatre team working closely together, with patient care at the centre of everything they do.

As a Theatre Scrub Nurse at The Memorial Hospital, Neha brings focus, attention to detail and the ability to anticipate what’s needed in an environment where every member of the team plays an important role.

But for Neha, theatre nursing is about more than what happens during a procedure. It’s about helping patients feel comfortable and supported at a time when they may be feeling particularly vulnerable, and knowing she can make a difference to their experience.

Opened in 1920, The Memorial Hospital was founded to honour and serve those who enlisted in the Great War, providing care for those returning and their families, while also training young women to become certified nurses.

More than 100 years on, the Hospital’s iconic sandstone walls and verandahs remain a familiar part of our story, connecting generations of patients, families and staff who have walked through its doors.

While much has changed over the past century, The Memorial Hospital’s commitment to caring for the South Australian community continues.

For some patients, recovery after a procedure may include time in The Memorial Hospital’s Critical Care Unit for additional monitoring and support.

Our CCU brings together highly trained Critical Care Nurses, Intensive Care Specialists, Medical Officers and Allied Health Professionals, all working closely to provide attentive, coordinated care when it matters most.

With Intensive Care Specialists on call 24/7 and Medical Officers on-site around the clock, patients and their families can feel reassured knowing experienced support is always close by.

Meet Ramya, one of the dedicated Paediatric Nurses caring for children at Memorial KIDS.

From clinical handover with the nursing team to carefully preparing intravenous fluids and supporting post-operative recovery, every part of Ramya’s day is focused on helping young patients feel safe, comfortable and cared for.

Sometimes, it is the smallest moments that make the biggest difference, like preparing a light meal after a procedure and seeing a smile return.

At Memorial KIDS, our experienced paediatric team works together to support each child and family throughout their hospital stay.
