Not all headaches are created equal. 👀

Tension, cervicogenic and migraine headaches can feel similar but come from very different places, and some have a musculoskeletal component that responds well to hands-on care.

The graphic breaks down which is which. Knowing your type is the first step to managing it properly rather than just reaching for another tablet.
Which type sounds most like yours? Save this for next time one strikes.

Word of the month: referred pain 🤔
Here is the strange part. Pain you feel in your shoulder might be coming from your neck, and a sore jaw can trace back to your upper back entirely. Referred pain happens because different parts of the body share nerve pathways, so the brain occasionally gets the postcode wrong.
It is one of the reasons we assess the whole body, not just the spot that hurts. The source and the symptom are not always neighbours.
Save this one for the next time your body sends you on a wild goose chase.

Written centuries ago, this quote still sparks fascinating conversations about healing, the body, and the role of healthcare. While modern medicine has evolved enormously since Voltaire’s time, one idea continues to resonate: the body has remarkable capacities for adaptation, repair, and recovery.

Osteopathy works with this principle by supporting how the body moves, functions, and responds to everyday stresses. Through thoughtful assessment and hands-on care, osteopaths aim to support the body’s natural ability to regulate and heal. 🤲
Sometimes healing is not about forcing the body, but understanding it better.

If your body has been feeling stiff, tense, or out of balance lately, an osteopath may be able to help support your movement and wellbeing. Call 📞 5941-4157 or book online here: https://www.pakenhamosteopathy.com.au/book-online/

August is Tradies National Health Month, and frankly, your body has earned the check-in. 💪
Lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, repeat. Tradies ask an enormous amount of their bodies every single day, then shrug off the ni**les as part of the job. That ni**le is information, not weakness.

We see a lot of tradies, and the ones who sort small issues early tend to stay on the tools longer.

If something has been grumbling, book in with our team at Pakenham Osteopathy. Call 📞 5941-4157 and we will take a look. Or book online here: https://www.pakenhamosteopathy.com.au/book-online/

Balance does not just happen in your legs, it starts with how your body senses itself in space. ⚖️

From an osteopathic perspective, balance relies on a finely tuned system involving joints, muscles, the spine, inner ear and proprioception, which is your body’s
awareness of position and movement. When any part of this system is not working as efficiently, stability can be affected.

This may show up as feeling unsteady on your feet, difficulty with uneven ground, or a general loss of confidence in movement. For older adults, or anyone at increased risk of falls, this becomes especially important.

Osteopathic care often focuses on improving joint mobility, reducing unnecessary tension, and supporting better movement patterns. Alongside this, strength and proprioception-based exercises can help retrain the body’s balance systems and support safer, more confident movement.

If you have noticed changes in your balance or feel less steady than you used to, it is worth having it assessed early.

💚 Your liver is one of the most chemically active organs in your body.

At any moment, it is managing blood sugar, packaging cholesterol, storing vitamins, filtering old blood cells, producing bile for digestion, neutralising toxins, regulating hormones, and supporting immunity. It even helps determine whether nutrients get stored, burned, or circulated. 🧠⚡

When liver health declines, people often notice fatigue, brain fog, inflammation, poor recovery, digestive changes, or altered energy regulation long before obvious disease develops.

Despite all that complexity, looking after your liver is surprisingly simple.
Your liver responds remarkably well to consistent basics: regular movement, fibre-rich foods, adequate protein, sleep, hydration, maintaining muscle mass, and limiting excess alcohol.

One fascinating fact? The liver is the only major internal organ that can significantly regenerate itself after injury or partial removal. So, the liver gives you some second, and third, and even fourth chances - take them!
