🎒 Back-to-school season is about more than grades.

A teen can be doing well academically while still struggling with stress, anxiety, pressure, or feeling overwhelmed.

Good grades don’t always tell the whole story.

This school year, remember to check in on how your teen is feeling — not just how they’re performing. 💚

If your teen needs support, Mindgarden Wellness is here to help. 🌿

Parenting through adolescence can require us to hold space for some very big emotions; including our own.

When a teen is dysregulated, it can activate our nervous system too. We may feel frustrated, rejected, overwhelmed, or pulled toward reacting instead of responding.

Co-regulation doesn’t mean staying perfectly calm. It means developing the awareness to notice our own activation, create space when needed, maintain appropriate boundaries, and return to the conversation when we’re better able to engage.

And when we don't get it right? Repair matters.

Saying, “I was overwhelmed and I didn’t respond the way I wanted to. Can we try that conversation again?” can model something incredibly valuable: that difficult emotions don't have to damage relationships, and that conflict can be repaired.

If parenting through your teen’s big emotions is leaving you feeling overwhelmed, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

THE QUESTION ISN’T JUST “HOW MUCH SCREEN TIME?”

Two hours of screen time can look very different depending on what’s happening on the screen.

Is your child:
🎮 Building, creating or problem-solving?
💬 Connecting with friends?
📚 Learning something new?
🌎 Exploring a world they’re interested in?
😌 Taking a break and decompressing?

Or is screen time starting to crowd out the things their brain and body need too?

Think about:
Sleep. Movement. School. Relationships. Family time.

Rather than focusing only on the number of hours, try asking:

What is this screen time replacing?

The goal isn’t necessarily to eliminate screens. It’s to help create a healthy balance between what happens on the screen and off the screen.

Sometimes, looking at the whole picture tells us much more than the clock does.

Sometimes anxiety is really good at writing stories about things that haven't happened yet.

It takes one possibility and turns it into ten.
One uncertainty becomes a list of everything that could go wrong.

But a possibility isn't a prediction.

You don't have to believe every fearful thought your mind creates. You can pause, take a breath, and leave a little room for something different — maybe even something good. 🤍

What if things don't go wrong?
What if something goes right?

🌱 Give yourself permission to find out.

What if you didn't have to manage your anxiety all by yourself? 🌿

Anxiety can become so familiar that we start treating it like something we simply have to live with.

The constant worrying.
The overthinking.
The racing thoughts.
The physical tension.
The feeling that something is always about to go wrong.

And sometimes, we don't reach out for help because we tell ourselves:

“It's not bad enough.”
“Other people have it worse.”
“I should be able to handle this.”
“I'll deal with it when things calm down.”

But you don't have to wait until you're completely overwhelmed before asking for support.

Research continues to show that many people experiencing anxiety don't receive counselling or therapy. In Canada, among people who met criteria for a mood, anxiety, or substance-use disorder in 2022, only about one-third had received counselling or therapy.

You deserve support before things reach a breaking point.

Therapy isn't about being told what's wrong with you. It's about having a space to understand what you're experiencing, develop tools that can help, and work toward feeling more like yourself again.

🌱 You don't have to figure it all out alone.

If anxiety has been taking up more space in your life than you'd like, reaching out may be a good place to start.

3 Things Your Anxious Teen Wants You to Know (But Won’t Say) 💚

Adolescence comes with complex emotional terrain. Sometimes anxiety doesn’t look like worry; it can look like irritability, withdrawal, avoidance, or frustration.

Swipe through for a quick look at what might be happening beneath the surface. 💚

And remember: your teen may not always have the words to explain what they’re feeling, but your patience, presence, and calm can make a meaningful difference.

If your teen or family could use support, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Parenting doesn’t come with a manual. 💜

Especially when you’re navigating big emotions, difficult behaviors, or changes that seem to come out of nowhere.

Creating a safe, grounded space at home can help children and teens feel supported as they work through what they’re experiencing, without fear of judgment.

You don’t have to have all the answers. And you don’t have to navigate a tough season alone.

Many people think therapy is only for moments when life feels overwhelming.

But therapy can also be a space for growth, reflection, and learning new ways to navigate challenges.

You don't have to wait until things feel unmanageable to reach out for support.

🌿 Sometimes support is simply having a safe space to understand yourself better.
