Diane Gerrard has demonstrated exceptional innovation and leadership in clinical practice throughout her 42-year career, developing multiple specialized practice areas including dysphagia services, brain injury rehabilitation, and mental health teams. She founded clinical interest groups that meet regularly to share research and treatment methods, established standardized testing protocols, and transferred knowledge across her teams. Diane's remarkable ability to master multiple practice areas, mentor emerging leaders, and foster clinical excellence has profoundly strengthened occupational therapy in community-based settings.

Tout au long de ses 42 ans de carrière, Diane Gerrard a fait preuve d’une innovation et d’un leadership exceptionnels dans la pratique clinique, en développant de nombreux domaines de spécialisation, notamment les services liés à la dysphagie, la réadaptation après une lésion cérébrale et les équipes de santé mentale. Elle a fondé des groupes d’intérêt clinique qui se réunissent régulièrement pour partager des recherches et des méthodes de traitement, a mis en place des protocoles d’analyse normalisés et a favorisé le transfert de connaissances au sein de ses équipes. Register for our upcoming Level 2 on sensory intelligence and occupational therapy to delve further into application of sensory modulation concepts, assessments, and applications with adolescents and adults living with PTSD, autism, ADHD, anxiety, and depression- https://caot.ca/client/event/roster/eventRosterDetails.html?productId=11816&eventRosterId=10

For each diagnosis, the typical symptoms and functional difficulties will be reviewed, what and how to assess, and how to assist such a client to self-regulate their emotions and arousal levels sustainably for optimal participation in their daily occupations.

To further your knowledge and skills, you will participate actively by completing a pre-workshop assignment and readings on a case study, and work in small groups to present their findings on a case study with a specific diagnosis, and an occupational therapy plan to other participants, while the workshop presenters will provide examples, guidance, facilitate discussion and answer questions.

CAOT was invited to speak with second-year occupational therapy students at the University of Ottawa about the power of advocacy and the importance of communicating the value of occupational therapy to diverse audiences.

As these students complete their final week of coursework and prepare to enter the profession, they do so equipped not only with clinical knowledge and skills, but also with additional advocacy tools - for their clients, their communities, and the profession itself.

Their passion, insight, and commitment to shaping a more inclusive and accessible future are inspiring, and we look forward to seeing the impact they will make through advocacy at the local, provincial, national, and global levels.

L’ACE a été invitée à s’adresser aux étudiantes et étudiants de deuxième année en ergothérapie de l’Université d’Ottawa afin de discuter du pouvoir de la défense des droits et intérêts et de l’importance de communiquer la valeur de l’ergothérapie auprès de publics diversifiés.

Alors que ces étudiantes et étudiants terminent leur dernière semaine de cours et se préparent à entrer dans la profession, elles et ils le font non seulement munis de connaissances et de compétences cliniques, mais également d’outils supplémentaires en matière de défense des droits et intérêts – pour leur clientèle, leurs communautés et la profession elle-même.

Leur passion, leur perspicacité et leur engagement à bâtir un avenir plus inclusif et accessible sont une source d’inspiration. Sandra Moll has advanced occupational therapy through 37 years of transformative contributions in clinical practice, education, and research, securing more than $17 million in research funding and publishing 80 peer-reviewed papers. She co-founded the Do-Live-Well framework for health promotion, adopted internationally, and developed innovative workplace mental health programs, including "Beyond Silence" and the OnCall app for healthcare workers and first responders. As an educator and professor at McMaster University, Sandra has mentored more than 100 students while championing recovery-oriented approaches and co-design methodologies.

Sandra Moll a fait progresser l'ergothérapie grâce à 37 années de contributions novatrices dans les domaines de la pratique clinique, de l'enseignement et de la recherche. Elle a obtenu plus de 17 millions de dollars de financement pour la recherche et publié 80 articles évalués par des pairs. Elle a cofondé le cadre Do-Live-Well pour la promotion de la santé, adopté à l'échelle internationale, et développé des programmes innovants en matière de santé mentale au travail, notamment « Beyond Silence » et l'application OnCall destinée aux prestataires de services de santé, aux premières intervenantes et aux premiers intervenants. En tant qu’enseignante et professeure à McMaster University, Sandra a encadré plus de 100 membres de la communauté étudiante tout en défendant des approches axées sur le rétablissement et des méthodologies de coconception.
