Last night, several members of our management team, along with residents Joanne and Helene, attended a special screening of The Green Bench documentary at the ByTowne Cinema in Ottawa.
The Green Bench is an inspiring initiative created by Schlegel Villages that celebrates by bringing generations together. For the past 10 years, the program has invited youth to sit down with seniors in retirement communities, creating meaningful conversations, sharing life experiences, and building connections that help bridge the generational gap.
The documentary was both moving and thought-provoking, following the journeys of several older adults as they returned to the towns and communities where their stories began. Through reflections, memories, and reunions, the film highlighted the lasting impact of place, the value of lived experience, and the importance of preserving and sharing the wisdom that comes with age.
It was an emotional evening that reminded us all of the power of storytelling, human connection, and the remarkable lives that continue to inspire future generations.
