The Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA) is the voice of the home and community support sector. Across the province each year, more than one million people receive home care and community support services (CSS) such as in-home nursing, therapy and personal support, Meals on Wheels®, adult/Alzheimer day programs, transportation to medical appointments, respite for family caregivers, hospice/palliative care, supportive housing and attendant services for persons with disabilities. These services are important, cost-effective measures that prevent unnecessary hospitalizations, emergency room visits and premature institutionalization. OCSA’s members provide home care services contracted by Community Care Access Centres (CCACs) and community support services directly funded by the 14 Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) in Ontario.

How can Ontario bring primary health care closer to home?

That’s the question at the centre of From On Lok to Ontario, happening this Thursday at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Co-hosted by OCSA, TMU’s Master of Health Administration (Community Care) Program, Carefirst Seniors and Family Health Team, AdvantAge Ontario and Association of Family Health Teams of Ontario (AFHTO), the symposium will explore 50 years of lessons from PACE and what they can teach us about transforming community-based primary health care in Ontario.

We’re excited to announce a new partnership between LCBO and Meals on Wheels Ontario to support food security for seniors and people with disabilities across Ontario.

This fall, customers can purchase a reusable tote bag, designed by Ontario artist Sarah Farquhar, in select LCBO stores and on LCBO.com, with 100% of proceeds donated to Meals on Wheels Ontario to provide meals to seniors and people with disabilities.

For many Meals on Wheels clients, the cost of nutritious meals can be a growing financial barrier. Funds raised through this initiative will help support access to meals for those experiencing financial hardship, helping ensure that cost is not a barrier to receiving the food and support they need.

Purchase a tote bag. Provide one meal.

Look for the LCBO and Meals on Wheels tote bag in stores and online, and help support Meals on Wheels in communities across Ontario.
