At 7:00 p.m., we will light a virtual purple candle on our Instagram and Facebook stories as part of the , joining families, communities, and organizations around the world in honouring the precious babies lost through pregnancy, infant, and early child loss.

Many of our teams also wore purple today in recognition of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. Through the and , we come together in love, remembrance, and hope, creating space to honour every loss and stand alongside those who carry these stories in their hearts.

At Hennick Humber Hospital, our Maternal and Child Program is committed to being on a journey to improve care for families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss. We recognize the importance of providing compassionate support, education, and meaningful opportunities to honour and remember the youngest members of our families.

Central to this journey is ensuring that the voices and lived experiences of patients and families help shape our approach. Our newly launched interdisciplinary Bereavement Committee brings together patient representatives, nurses, physicians, social workers, spiritual care providers, and program leaders to advance meaningful improvements in how we support families through loss and remembrance.

Last week, the North Western Toronto Ontario Health Team celebrated two years of community, connection and support at The Hub@2115, located at our Finch Campus.

Community members and partners came together to learn more about the programs, services and supports available across Northwestern Toronto, including Mental Health and Wellness Supports, Seniors Services, and other resources designed to help individuals and families access care closer to home.

The milestone also recognized the strong partnerships that make this space welcoming and accessible space for community-based care and support.

: Emergency nurses are specially trained to quickly assess, prioritize, and stabilize patients experiencing urgent and life-threatening conditions.

Our Apotex Emergency Department cares for more than 140,000 patients each year, making it Ontario’s busiest ED. Our nurses support patients of all ages, from minor injuries to major trauma, strokes, heart attacks, and cardiac arrests.

Every shift brings new challenges. Our ED nurses rely on critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and rapid decision-making while working closely with physicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, diagnostic imaging, social work, and many other healthcare professionals.

As part of North America’s first fully digital hospital, they use advanced technology and digital workflows to support safe, timely care when every second counts.

They also maintain specialized training, including Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, trauma and paediatric emergency care, Coronary Care I & II, and more.

Today, on Clergy Appreciation Day, we recognize our Spiritual Care team and the compassion, presence and support they bring to Hennick Humber Hospital each day.

Meet Mary Ann and Grygoriy, two of our dedicated chaplains who walk alongside patients, families and staff during some of life’s most challenging and meaningful moments.

For Mary Ann, Spiritual Care is about creating a sacred space where people feel heard and supported. “Helping people to tap into their own inner strength and courage helps them to live more abundantly.”

Grygoriy describes chaplaincy as a journey guided by what matters most to each person. “We go with what is dear and sacred to them and turn it into a supportive environment.”
Whether offering a listening ear, helping someone navigate uncertainty or creating space for reflection, our chaplains meet people where they are. Honouring their individual beliefs, values and experiences.

Hennick Humber Hospital is making headlines for innovation in care.

Yesterday, on World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we shared a story that reflects the importance of choice, dignity and compassionate care. Featured in yesterday’s issue of the Toronto Star, the story of Alberto Arcuri and his family demonstrates how Hennick Humber Hospital's Hospice@Home program is helping patients receive personalized end-of-life care in the comfort of their own homes.

Yesterday, we welcomed all staff, physicians and volunteers to join the commemoration of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

This event guided participants through the history of colonial violence as it pertains to Indigenous healthcare. Our guest speakers, Suzanne, Indigenous Knowledge Keeper & Interim Director at the Indigenous Wellness Council, and Cedar Smoke, Youth Cultural Coordinator & Truth and Reconciliation Coordinator, educated participants on the legacy of segregation in Indigenous hospitals that causes medical mistrust, and how Indigenous cultural safety is key to healing those relationships through listening and learning about Indigenous healing frameworks.

In addition, attendees enjoyed musical performances by an all women, Indigenous drumming group, Manitou Mkwa Singers (Spirit Bear Singers), who hail from the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. They are a family hand drum group that sing pow-wow, and round dance songs.

Participants also enjoyed delicious refreshments from an Indigenous catering company, Cedar Spoon Catering.

Meet Paolo Panetta, a Logistics Clerk who helps get essential supplies and equipment where they need to be, when they’re needed.

From receiving deliveries to replenishing supply rooms, Paolo’s work takes him across the Hospital. What he enjoys most is the opportunity to connect with and support teams in every area, from inpatient units to the ICU and Apotex Emergency Department. “We get to go everywhere. We get to help everyone.”

As part of a team that operates 24/7, Paolo knows that timely deliveries and good communication make a difference in supporting patient care.
