After a wonderful morning spent in the garden a lot of residents decided an afternoon film in our beautiful air conditioned cinema was the perfect way to spend this afternoon.

Residents choose Mama Mia as a fun afternoon film and are enjoying popcorn, sweets and drinks as they sing along to the fabulous tunes of ABBA.

Who doesn’t like a pamper afternoon! Lots of residents enjoy spending time in our salon having their nails done and today was no exception! Our care team enjoy spending time with residents carrying out beauty sessions as know the benefits we feel when we receive them. Whether it’s a hand or foot massage or having nails painted, the team are here to support residents to feel their best.

Having our own minibus here at Llys Herbert means we get to go out on multiple trips a week to ensure residents get a choice of where they want to go. Yesterday morning was a trip to Cardiff Bay and yesterday afternoon another group of residents went to Cosmeston Lake.

Here are some pictures of the trip to the lake where residents had a great afternoon and all enjoyed the most delicious ice cream sitting in the shade.

Doing things you have always enjoyed certainly shouldn’t stop when you move into a care home and we tailor activities here at Llys Herbert to support this.

We ask all residents about their wishes when they move in and we do what we can to ensure that we can help residents achieve these wishes.

When Harry moved in his wish was as he could no longer travel to Spain then he wanted to eat amazing Spanish food and feel like he was in Spain for the day. This wish sent our BA Ceri and our CRM Sally into full planning mode as to how we could achieve this. With the help of the Team and a huge shout out to our amazing team of chefs we managed to pull off a full day of Spanish themed fun.

From flamenco style exercise class, sampling tapas and sangria whilst we toured Spain on the big screen in the cinema and even a piñata full of goodies which everyone loved.

Lunch included options such as Spanish style chicken and tortilla and supper was a master class of Prawn and mussels paella with Harry’s favourite Creme Catalina as one of the desserts.

We decorated the home and team dressed up in the colours of Spain to make the whole day memorable from start to finish.

One of the highlights of the day was hearing residents chatting to each other and the team about their memories of Spain and trips they had as children and adults.

This afternoon we took the time to celebrate with the team for the recent amazing results in external and internal inspections and for also being named a top 100 care home in the UK. The team are at the heart of everything we do here and we cannot be more proud of the amazing work they do every day to support the residents here at Llys Herbert. Singing and music are more than just hobbies as they can benefit both physical and mental health. Singing also creates social connections and the residents here at Llys Herbert look forward to the monthly Goldies Cymru sessions where they get together with the Goldies singers to enjoy a morning of singing and friendship. These sessions are always filled with joy and laughter as you can see from these pictures.
