After nearly 25 years of dedicated service at Crossley Street Surgery, we would like to announce the retirement of our much-loved and highly valued GP, Dr Sarah Fraser, who will be leaving us at the end of July. Her final day at the practice will be 28th July.

Throughout her time with us, Sarah has provided exceptional care, kindness, and support to generations of patients and has been a treasured colleague and friend to our staff. Her dedication to the health and wellbeing of our community has touched the lives of so many people, and her presence at the surgery will be greatly missed.

We know that many patients will share our sadness at seeing Sarah retire, but we are also delighted that she is beginning an exciting new chapter and enjoying a truly well-earned retirement.

On behalf of everyone at Crossley Street Surgery, we would like to thank Sarah for her outstanding service, commitment, and friendship over the past 25 years. We wish her every happiness, good health, and success for the future.

If you would like to share a message, memory, or good wishes for Sarah, please feel free to leave a comment below. We know she will appreciate hearing from the many patients whose lives she has positively impacted over the years.

Thank you, Sarah, for everything you have done for our patients, our practice, and our community. You will be greatly missed.

With our warmest wishes,
The Partners and Team at Crossley Street Surgery

🏥 Understanding Hospital Referral & Waiting Times
We know many patients contact the surgery asking for updates on hospital referrals and waiting times – so here’s a helpful reminder of how the system works.

Once you have been referred to hospital:
📨 Your referral is sent to the hospital specialist team
🏥 The hospital manages your appointment, waiting list, and scheduling
📞 The GP surgery does not hold or control hospital waiting lists
đź“… We are unable to book, speed up, or change hospital appointment times

⏱️ “How long will I be waiting?”
Waiting times vary depending on:
đź’ The hospital you have been referred to
đź’ The specialty (e.g. orthopaedics, dermatology, ENT)
đź’ How urgent your referral is
đź’ Current NHS demand and capacity

📊 Some hospitals publish average waiting time information online, which can give a general idea of current demand.

You can view estimated waiting times via NHS resources such as “My Planned Care” or your hospital trust’s website. There are links to these on our website: https://www.crossleystreetsurgery.co.uk/news-page/waiting-times-for-hospital-referrals.html
👉 These figures are estimates only, and individual waiting times may be longer or shorter.

📞 Who should I contact for updates?
If you have questions about your hospital appointment:
👉 Please contact the hospital directly using the details provided in your referral letter

The hospital team will have the most accurate and up-to-date information about:
đź’ Appointment dates
đź’ Waiting list position
đź’ Clinic scheduling

⚠️ When to contact the GP surgery
Please only contact us if:
đź’ Your symptoms have significantly changed or worsened since referral
đź’ You need your referral details clarified
đź’ You believe a referral may not have been received
Otherwise, hospital waiting list queries are best directed to the hospital service.

đź’™ A final note
We completely understand that waiting for hospital care can feel frustrating. Please be assured:
âś” Your referral is active once sent
âś” You have not been forgotten
âś” Care is prioritised based on clinical need

We are unable to influence waiting times, but we will always support you if your condition changes.

đź’™ May Measure Month 2026 đź’™

May is all about one simple action that could save your life: checking your blood pressure.

May Measure Month is a global campaign raising awareness about hypertension—the leading cause of preventable death worldwide. Shockingly, around half of people with high blood pressure don’t even know they have it.

This initiative, launched by the International Society of Hypertension, encourages people everywhere to take a few minutes to get their blood pressure checked—often for free—and learn their numbers.

đź’ˇ Why it matters:
• High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke
• Early detection can prevent serious complications
• A quick check could make a life-saving difference

Since it began, millions of people across 100+ countries have taken part, with over 1 million cases of previously undiagnosed hypertension identified.

👉 This May, be part of :
âś” Get your blood pressure checked
âś” Encourage friends and family to do the same
âś” Share awareness and help save lives

Because knowing your numbers is the first step to protecting your health. đź’™

đź’ś Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week (4th - 10th May)đź’ś
🩵World Maternal Mental Health Day (Today)🩵

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week is a UK-wide campaign dedicated to talking about mental health before, during and after pregnancy—raising awareness, challenging stigma, and helping families access the support they need.

This year’s theme, “A Decade of Voices,” celebrates 10 years of progress while highlighting how important it is that women feel heard, supported, and empowered to speak about their experiences.

Around 1 in 5 women experience mental health challenges during pregnancy or in the first year after birth—yet many still feel isolated or unsure where to turn.

Let’s use this week to:
đź’¬ Start honest conversations
🤝 Support mums, partners, and families
📣 Raise awareness and break the stigma
đź’ˇ Share information and signpost support

If you’re struggling, please know—you are not alone, and help is available. And if you know a mum, take a moment to check in. Your support could make all the difference.
