It's World Sight Day, and sight loss doesn't always announce itself. 👁️

JJ Savani didn't notice his vision fading until he woke up with one eye blacked out. His optician referred him urgently to Moorfields, where two corneal transplants for keratoconus gave him his sight back.

He went on to rebuild his life as an award-winning celebrity barber.

For World Sight Day this Thursday 8th October, our INSIGHT research hub is hosting a pop-up event at our City Rd site. All are welcome to stop by and find out how anonymised patient data is powering research

To mark this Thursday 8th October, the INSIGHT team is hosting a health data research pop-up event at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Time: 1:30-4:30pm
Place: Moorfields Eye Hospital, main entrance, next to Friends of Moorfields Health Information Hub. 162 City Rd, London. EC1V 2PD

Patients, staff, members of the public, and researchers are invited to stop by and find out firsthand how routinely collected eye imaging data is helping to advance earlier detection, treatment and care of disease. Colleagues from NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Moorfields are hosting a morning session at the hub, followed by the INSIGHT takeover in the afternoon.

The pop-up is part of INSIGHT's ongoing Data Saves Sight campaign, informing patients how their eye health data is routinely collected, and may be anonymised for use in research. The campaign also highlights every patient's right to opt out of sharing their health data for research via the national opt-out.

Researchers from Moorfields and the Pearse Keane lab at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology will be on hand to share their work and answer questions.
