Lifetide Training Ltd Psychotherapy, Supervision and Training Others dedicate themselves to providing positive and effective help.

When times are tough and confusing or when your whole future is about to change with job insecurity and financial strains, who can you turn to for guidance and help? In the past, with extended families and smaller communities, you either turned to a trusted confidant, a family member, teacher, a neutral party, or you simply buried your concerns and lived with them as best you could. Today, many people are taking the time to gain the essential knowledge and skills that will enable them to achieve their goals. Lifetide Training offers a number of services to guide you to the best life you can achieve, the right job and the right decisions:-

You may want to see someone on a one-to-one basis and for that we provide psychotherapy, counselling and life coaching. Depending on your needs and what specific areas of your life you want to work on, we can develop a programme for working with you. You may want to get involved in formal, respected and quality training. We help people become accredited as psychotherapists and so qualify to enter the register of the UKCP.

The HIV/AIDS crisis transformed the relationship between gay men, pressure groups, broadcasters and the government in 1980s Britain. This witness seminar will hear from four men who shaped and observed this transformation -

Keith Howes (then at Gay News),
Julian Meldrum (Capital Gay and Hall-Carpenter Archives),
Martin Weaver and Tony Whitehead (respectively Counsellor and Press Officer and founding member and Chair of Directors of the Terrence Higgins Trust).

Audience members are encouraged to share their experiences of the 1980s and to reflect upon subsequent media coverage of LGBTQ+ issues.

The seminar is chaired by Professor Virginia Berridge, author of AIDS in the UK: The Making of Policy, 1981-1994, and is organised by Professor Marcus Collins as part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council project Re-viewing LGBTQ+ Lives through Broadcasting in Twentieth-century Britain. It is accompanied by a pop-up exhibition showcasing interviews collected by the National HIV Story Trust.

The witness seminar is free and open to all. It will take place from 6-8 on Tuesday 29 September, Room 2.05, Loughborough University London, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London E20 3BS (directions here). Please email [email protected] with any queries.

A doctor posted this on Threads:

"Don’t tell a patient with cancer “everything happens for a reason”
Cancer happens because cells mutate
Not all suffering has meaning
There is no silver lining"

My response:

"I had to give an unpopular and challenging opinion to a group of psychotherapist colleagues this week:

Stress doesn't cause cancer.

I've had skin, prostate & HPV throat cancer - all now clear. What are you saying about me?

Stress can and does effect one's reaction & recovery from the treatment.

I wasn't popular."

Now four weeks after surgery I'm beginning to feel so much better. Last week's heat that was around 35°C was challenging and set off some of my AF (Arterial Fibrillation) but thankfully not for long - I'm putting that down to recovery and the heat.

A lunchtime drink and nibbles with my husband helps.❤️

So far today convalescence is working well and I'm beginning to see a few clients - more as the weeks go on but still less than I used to a few years ago.

I needed an MRI scan last Friday so I may not be out of the woods just yet.🤞

All the signs are positive so I'm hopefull.

Best wishes to everyone on or watching Gay Pride in London today. I'm an old school gay man and my first march was in 1981. I'm not fit enough to be there today but after 26 years working as a psychotherapist is good to see my professional organisation being represented by UKCP members of the Rainbow Special Interest Group.

If you are still unsure as to why visibility like this is important to my AIDS ARCHIVE, link in my bio, and listen to the Radio Victory phone-in and experience the scary world before AIDS.

Enjoy today as you build a better world for all of us.

Here I am back at home.

After much sleep and now eating safely it's time to slow down, reflect & recover.

Recovery will take some time, so join me in the process of convalescence in my podcast on the subject. There is a link in my bio or you can jump right into Spotify yourself.

I'm taking some time, but not a lot of time, to remember this part week, the kindness and care of the medical, nursing & general staff at the Cleveland Hospital here in London.

Perhaps more importantly, the love and care of my husband. In September we will celebrate 40 years together and this experience becomes part of our story.

Good health to you all.

Yesterday went well & this is today's breakfast.

All being well with digestion today and I might well be home tonight or tomorrow.

Then time for convalescence. A day surgery treatment that had turned into six days so far.

I'm blessed to have a loving & caring husband as well as family and friends.

I must also say "Thank You" to the many colleagues and clients who have shown such support and shared many kind words with me.

These are the elements that go to make up good mental health. I hope and trust that you have them as well.

Onwards.......

Sometimes life tells us to slow down. So here I am after hernia repair surgery last Tuesday, back in hospital with bowel problems. Most likely from previous surgery I had in 1996 when I had my appendix removed.

As a psychotherapist I'm always aware of how my body feels and yet after 65 years it can still surprise me with new sensations.

Eating & drinking are so basic to our lives that when the digestive process gets interrupted, or even put into reverse, the result can be frightening. I've learned over the years to go with my body - usually slow & paced.

Hence after arriving back in hospital early Thursday morning, when digestion had stopped, having had the necessary but dreaded nasal-gastric tube and spent more time than I care to sitting on the toilet - waiting, breathing & relaxing (yes it is possible), the tube has been removed and this is my first breakfast.

It will take a few days for my system to reset, with hopefully no setbacks, before I can return to 'normal'.

Enforced time out is a strange place to be. There has been no invasive treatment for three days. I've been with my thoughts and my body, with just sipping water for company.

Now a more healthy life bekons - even with the healing scars that will eventually fade this episode reminds me to take time out.

Remain healthy.
