If you've been watching our stories, you know that Sassy got a spa treatment this week! By which we mean a new paint job. They've been our unofficial mascot and Bangor celebrity for over a decade, and with time, had become quite faded.

Sassy is refreshed, vibrant, and ready to see everyone at Bangor Pride in just over a month!

Now, there is still the potential for an appeal to be filed regarding this, but today we are breathing a little easier knowing that this horrifying anti-trans ballot question may not be on the ballot this November. This ballot question has never been anything more than targeted bullying and harassment of marginalized children.

A ruling invalidated enough signatures to disqualify the petition for the said referendum from the November 2026 ballot.

Every day, ILAP is responding to immigration arrests in Maine. Maine residents are facing inhumane conditions in detention centers, are at risk of life-threatening deportation, families are torn apart, and Maine’s communities are losing beloved members and essential workers. So many have withdrawn from public life, are afraid to send children to school, to go to work, seek medical care, practice their religion, and move freely.

Join ILAP in calling on Maine’s Members of Congress to vote NO on any additional funding for unchecked immigration enforcement.

Federal judges play an important role in safeguarding (or undoing) our freedoms--sign the petition against Justin Smith linked in our comments!

We and our partners at EqualityMaine, Maine Family Planning, MaineTransNet, Mabel Wadsworth Center and Planned Parenthood of Northern New England urge Sens. Collins and King to vote against the nomination of Justin Smith U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Smith has a deeply troubling pattern of support for eliminating the right to reproductive care, challenging the 2020 elections, attacking transgender rights and protecting the interests of big corporations over everyday people. He was also Trump's personal lawyer in the sexual abuse and defamation case brought by journalist E. Jean Carroll, and his law firm is representing Trump in his immunity case before the Supreme Court.

In short: we believe Smith is loyal to Donald Trump, and not the U.S. Constitution. Sens. Collins and King must reject his lifetime nomination to the court.

Sign the petition at the link in our comments. You can also call your senators using the Capitol Switchboard, 202-224-3121 to urge them to oppose the confirmations of Justin Smith today! Thank you to Alliance for Justice for leading on this!
