Thank you Drum Iowa for leading our residents in a drumming circle and encouraging everyone in the room to join in! As the hour together passed by, everyone got more and more comfortable playing their instruments and we all learned that no matter our skill level, together we really can create music! It was a beautiful display of community and connection and we are so thankful for your guidance! 🤗🪘🥰

🌟 Dare to Dream! 🌟

A conversation with Fred and Sharon never ends without them sharing just how much family means to them and how endlessly proud they are! Our Life Engagement Coordinator, Paul, took some time to get to know them even better and discovered that a huge part of their lives and the time spent with their family took place at the races! 🏎️

They shared that they had not yet gone to Hawkeye Downs this year and really wanted to visit one more time before they change the track style and to see their son and grandson race one more time!

Paul quickly discovered that there was only one more night of races for the season and before the change and coordinated a plan with their family to help make this special night possible! We took them to the track to meet up with their loved ones and they really were the royalty of Hawkeye Downs as they were stopped and greeted by many familiar faces as they made their way to the stands. 🤩

As we watched the races and they were surrounded by so much love, Sharon kept saying throughout the night “I just love my family! I just love them!” 🥹

We are so thankful to have been able to join in on the efforts to give this very special couple a night to remember and one more night at the races! 🏁

Our residents and staff enjoyed this month’s outing to the African American Museum of Iowa! 🏛️🖼️
Their vision states, “We envision building a community that comes together to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of Iowa’s African American history and culture through conversation, engagement, and reflection”. We are incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to have taken even a small part in that vision, and appreciated the display of culture and history offered throughout our visit. We look forward to visiting again and to continue learning!

🍨 No matter how many ice cream related National Days there are in a year, (and trust our Activity Department when they say there’s a lot!!!) our community says let’s go ahead and celebrate them all! 🥳 This week we had a Banana Split Sundae Bar in honor of National Banana Split Day and it sure was a hit! 🍌

One of our favorite things about summer is that the season allows our younger friends and family to join in on all of the fun! 🤗 Every year, our community hosts a fun-spirited and highly competitive water balloon fight for our residents, staff, and family! And oh what a time was had!

As many of our young friends get ready for a new school year, we thank each and every one of you for bringing so much joy and many memories with every visit within our halls! 📚🥰 In the spirit of this, we want to remind you all that we are hosting a pizza social for Senior Citizens Day on Friday, August 21st from 4:00p-5:30p! We hope you’ll be able to join us once more for the summer! ☀️🎓🍕

When our Sales Coordinator, Susan, found out today was Twyla’s birthday, she took the time to go up to her apartment and visit her and she captured the most beautiful smile we just had to share! 🥳🥰

In fact, so many staff members made it part of their day to go and visit with her for her birthday and were all met with the same joy and love (and the best fashion 🐆) Twyla has to share with us all! To hear so many stories swapped today of their moments was something so special! We never take for granted that our residents and their loved ones chose us to join their family and we are eternally grateful to get to be part of special moments like today! 💛

Every month we host a women’s tea party where we gather to sample new teas, continue building our friendships, and enjoy different baked goods— often from neighboring bakeries! 🍵🍰🫖This is yet another Garnett Place tradition that has become so very special to our community and something we look forward to month after month! 🥰
