1. While people like to blurt out “freedom ain’t free,” the Black American across generations experience truly personifies this concept.
2. Juneteenth sums things up flawlessly.
3. After exploitation to build the wealth of a young nation, the enslaved and its descendants received none of its promises and were told they that demanding it was asking for “handouts.”
4. They received none of the land that European immigrants with less time on this land received at extremely discounted rates that they would pass down to later generations who now promote a partial “financial literacy.”
5. And even more, they were legally restricted from the basic opportunity to own land and build economic wealth and stability with multigenerational impact.
6. For the Black American, freedom has always required fight, sacrifice, and keeping our heads on a swivel. Stay woke indeed.
7. Everytime we figure out the game, the rules magically change.
8. Everytime we step forward, violent push back somehow occurs.
9. And yet, still we rise.
10. And yet, we still bounce back.
11. And yet, we still resist.
12. And yet, we still transform.
13. And yet, we still smile.
14. And yet, we still personify joy.
15. And yet, we still heal.
16. In the face of gaslighting, manipulation, dishonesty, and violence, we refuse to yield, to surrender, to quit….we refuse…to…give…in.
17. We stand tall.
18. We stand strong.
19. We continue to build.
20. We are the opposite of a victim mentality.
21. We are everything that his country proclaims to be, but has forever lacked the courage to live into.
22. Juneteenth is a time to confront lies of commission and omission and to honestly reflect.
23. Try it once for the first time.
24. But don’t stop at reflecting.
25. Commit…to doing the next right thing.
