AAP President Dr. Andrew Racine shares a message on the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks:

“Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11th. On this day of remembrance and reflection, the American Academy of Pediatrics is mindful of the impact that the events of 9/11 had on the children of our country: those who lost parents and caregivers, those who lived in communities directly affected by the events and those who witnessed the tragedy and carry the memories of those images with them always.

When facing hardship or trauma, children look to adults and institutions to understand what it all means, how it is possible for them to still feel safe, and what it looks like to build resilience one day at a time. Remembering significant moments in our history, even and especially the hard ones, provides us an opportunity to teach future generations how we respond as a society when faced with profound challenge. It reminds us of the values we hope to pass on to children: empathy, courage, connection and resolve.

The pediatric community, which remains dedicated to the health and well-being of all children, is aware today as always that the duty to heal has no beginning and has no end."
