One of the most painful fears many individuals with OCD carry is this:
“What if I pass this on to my child?”

In her newest blog, explores the complicated emotions, fears, guilt, and uncertainty that can come with thinking about parenthood when OCD is part of your story.

This article dives into:
• the role genetics actually play in OCD
• how environment and family dynamics matter too
• why having OCD does not mean you are destined to harm your child
• and how awareness, treatment, and support can make a powerful difference

We loved being part of Understanding OCD: A Community Event in The Woodlands this past Friday, hosted by Gabby Westbrook, LCSW and the team at .anxiety_thewoodlands.

It is really really powerful to be in a space where OCD is understood, talked about openly, and met with compassion instead of stigma.

At Houston Anxiety and Wellness Center, this is the work we care deeply about every day. Helping kids, teens, and adults face fears, reduce avoidance, and get their lives back - by using evidence backed treatment, engaging in community outreach, and educating the community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, connected with us, and shared pieces of your story. And thank you to Gabby and her team for creating a space that brings this community together!

OCD is treatable. And no one has to navigate it alone.

Eating disorders are complex… but treatment doesn’t have to be confusing.

There are evidence-based approaches that work—and knowing what to look for can make all the difference.

In ’s latest blog, she breaks down:
• What “evidence-based treatment” actually means
• Why some approaches can unintentionally delay recovery
• The most effective treatments (CBT-E, FBT, CBT-AR, and more)
• How to choose the right fit based on age, diagnosis, and needs

Because recovery isn’t about finding a perfect solution; it’s about finding the right support.

If you or someone you love is struggling, this is an important place to start.

Most people think they understand OCD.
They don’t.

Last night, we had the honor of sponsoring a private screening of An Unquiet Mind at a , hosted at the Wilhelmina Cullen Robertson Auditorium, to promote awareness of OCD.

Our clinician, Bailey Grunder, LPC-A, attended the screening and experienced what so many in the room felt. A powerful, emotional evening that ended in a standing ovation. 👏🏾 👏🏼👏🏽

This was more than a screening.

It brought together clinicians, advocates, filmmakers, nonprofit leaders, and community members for connection, film, and moderated conversation centered on mental health, lived experience, and access to care.

Bailey was deeply moved, noting that everyone should see the film.

The film challenges one of the most harmful misconceptions about OCD.

OCD is not a quirky personality trait.
It is not about being neat.
It is not about liking things a certain way.

For a long time, OCD has been reduced to stereotypes like handwashing or checking. But there is an entire side of OCD that is far less visible and far less understood.

An Unquiet Mind follows the stories of individuals living with forms of OCD that people are often afraid to talk about. Intrusive, unwanted thoughts related to harm, postpartum fears, and other taboo themes that can feel terrifying and isolating.

Not because people want these thoughts.
But because OCD targets what matters most.

The misunderstanding of these experiences has created a culture of silence and shame.

This film breaks that silence.

By bringing these stories into the open, it builds understanding, invites empathy, and reminds people that they are not alone in something that can feel incredibly isolating.

And this is where real change begins.

Less stigma.
More honest conversations.
More people getting the help they actually need.

As clinicians, this is why we do what we do. OCD is highly treatable. And no one should have to suffer in silence from something so deeply misunderstood.

We are incredibly grateful to have supported this work and to be part of a community pushing these conversations forward.

We hear this question all the time:

“But what if it’s not anxiety… what if it’s my intuition?”

It’s such an important (and tricky) distinction,
especially when anxiety or OCD gets loud, convincing, and feels very real.

That’s exactly what we’re diving into in this live Q&A.

🧠 How anxiety and OCD can masquerade as intuition
🧠 How to tell the difference between fear and a true gut feeling
🧠 What to do when you’re stuck in the “what if” spiral
🧠 Real-life examples + practical tools you can start using right away

Join and Dr. Katie Manganello () for a thoughtful, practical conversation—and bring your questions.
