Throwback Thursday! 🥹💛

Before they were helping you make sense of life’s biggest moments, they were just kids figuring things out for themselves.

Take a little trip down memory lane with these throwbacks of some of our therapists and HAWC staff members — long before they became the people you know and love today! 📸✨

Myth Monday 💙

By discussing the common misconceptions around our mental health, we can break down the stigma that is a barrier to important conversations — life changing conversations.

Check in on someone you care about, reach out, and remind them they don’t have to go through difficult moments alone.

This Labor Day, consider this your reminder:
You don’t have to earn rest by being exhausted. 🧠
Taking a vacation doesn’t mean you’re lazy, falling behind, or not committed.
Sometimes stepping away is exactly what allows you to come back with more energy, clarity, and capacity.
It’s part of being human 🧘
This Labor Day, give yourself permission to:
Put your laptop away ✅
Sleep in ✅
Say no to plans ✅
Spend time with people you love ✅
Do absolutely nothing ✅
Happy Labor Day weekend!

We’re so grateful to have had the opportunity to co-host Common Grounds Coffee & Connection this month! Our team spent the morning with an incredible group of professionals dedicated to supporting, individuals, families, and our community! ☕️💛

A huge thank you to the core hosts of this quarterly event: Evan Weinburger (Staying Ahead of the Game) Dr. Liz Ross (The Coping Resource Center) & Leah Clionsky (Thriving Child Center). We’d also like to thank Meredith Davis founder of PX Project & PX Cafe (PX Project + PX Cafe) for sharing her space with us, treating us to yummy pasties made by the dedicated fellows, and making delicious iced lattes all morning!

We spend so much of our time focused on the people and families we serve, and it’s always good to have a reason to connect with the other professionals doing this work alongside us. We loved catching up with people we already know, meeting so many new faces, and hearing more about the work everyone is doing.

Thank you to everyone who came out for such a fun morning. 😃

✨ It’s Welcome Wednesday!

Meet Kasey Escamilla!
Kasey is a UT Austin graduate (Hook ’em!)🤘🏻and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston. She will be joining our team as a doctoral clinician, providing clinical care while completing her doctoral training!

Outside of work and school, Kasey loves traveling and finding cool hiking trails wherever her adventures take her! Her favorite adventure so far? Hiking to the summit of Haleakalā volcano in Maui! 🥾🌋

We’re so excited to have Kasey as part of the team — welcome, Kasey! 🩷

Bailey had a great afternoon at the Houston Psychological Association Back to School Fall Social last Friday Kirby Ice House 🫱🏽‍🫲🏼🎉

Including individuals from across the mental health community, she had the opportunity to connect with Dr. Jenny Hughes of Jenny Hughes I Healing Vicarious Trauma providers and incoming HPA President and learn more about UTHealth Houston brand new Master’s and PhD programs!

We love opportunities like this one that help us to connect, learn, and grow within our field! 🧠

New week, fresh start. 📚✨

With a new school year comes new schedules, routines, activities, and plenty of transitions—which can feel especially overwhelming for kids with ADHD.

Our Routine Rescue tool is designed to help children and families reset, build predictable routines, and break big tasks into smaller, more manageable steps.

🧠 Work with your child’s brain, not against it
📋 Create routines that feel doable
✨ Make the transition back to school a little smoother

*A new week doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch. Sometimes, you just need a little Routine Rescue. 💛

Your body is tired, but your brain has other plans. 🌙💭

If your thoughts seem to get louder the moment your head hits the pillow, you’re not alone. Nighttime can create the perfect space for worries, past mistakes, and unwanted thoughts to take over.

But anxiety, rumination, and OCD intrusive thoughts aren’t all the same. Understanding what’s happening can be the first step toward changing the cycle.

In our newest blog, Dr. Journa Njoh breaks down:
🧠 Why thoughts can feel more intense at night
💭 The difference between anxiety, rumination, and OCD intrusive thoughts
🌙 Strategies for managing racing thoughts at bedtime
💤 When it may be time to seek support
