Is Your Child Overwhelmed?
Sometimes overwhelm doesn't look like overwhelm. A child may become unusually quiet, irritable, avoid tasks, have difficulty making decisions, or suddenly struggle with things that are normally easy.
When demands exceed the skills or resources available to a child, their behavior may be communicating that they need support—not that they're simply “being difficult.”
A few things that may help:
✔️ Break tasks into smaller steps
✔️ Offer a short break
✔️ Reduce unnecessary demands
✔️ Use clear, simple directions
✔️ Give choices when possible
✔️ Build predictable routines
Every child communicates stress differently. Understanding the why behind the behavior can be the first step toward helping them feel successful.
