🔎Looking for a living kidney donor? Learn how to share your story and find a donor!🗣️

The National Kidney Registry Microsite Program helps kidney transplant recipients in need create and share their story on a public platform. Creating a customized microsite helps share your personal story of who you are and why you are in need of a transplant. This public webpage can then be shared across all social media outlets to spread the word to your friends, family, and community.

📣August is National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM)!💙💚

This month, we recognize the importance of increasing awareness about organ, eye, and tissue donation in multicultural communities. People from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds are disproportionately affected by kidney disease and are often more likely to need a transplant. By focusing on African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaskan Native communities, this observance brings heightened awareness to the importance of donation and transplantation in multiethnic contexts.

More than 100,000 people are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants. Nearly 60% of the national transplant waiting list are from multiethnic communities.

At AHN, we are committed to educating our communities, supporting patients and their families, and encouraging conversations about the lifesaving impact of organ donation.

Together, we can create hope, equity, and a second chance at life. 👫

📣SAVE THE DATE: AUGUST 1️⃣ – PENNSLYVANIA DONOR DAY ‼️

📅 This upcoming Saturday, August 1st, 2026, will mark the 7th annual PA Donor Day 🌟

As we prepare to celebrate this powerful day, we recognize and thank the selfless organ, eye, and tissue donors and their families whose gifts make second chances possible. We also thank the living donors who choose to give the gift of life while they are still here to witness its incredible impact.

At AHN Abdominal Transplant, we have the privilege of seeing the life-changing difference donation makes every day. Each transplant represents hope, healing, and a new beginning for patients and their loved ones.

💙1 donor can save 8 lives and help 75+ lives.
💚8 lives depend on your 1 decision.

You can make a difference by:

A successful kidney transplant starts with finding the right match. While your ABO blood type (A, B, AB, or O) is important for determining compatibility, whether your blood type is positive (+) or negative (-) does not affect living kidney donation. 🩸

Not compatible with your intended recipient? You may still be able to donate through our partnership with the National Kidney Registry. The NKR connects incompatible donor-recipient pairs with other pairs, helping more patients receive the life-saving transplant they need.

📣 Help us celebrate an incredible milestone in our AHN Abdominal Transplant department!🌟
We have completed the region’s first robotic-assisted kidney transplant for a recipient! This procedure establishes Allegheny Health Network as the only transplant center in western Pennsylvania capable of performing both living donor and recipient kidney transplant procedures robotically. Performing the procedure robotically can reduce wound complications and support a faster patient recovery. AHN joins only a small number of transplant centers nationwide in performing the robotic-assisted kidney transplant for recipients. ✨
This procedure was performed in April 2026, using the da Vinci Surgical System by Dr. Jennifer Carpenter (Transplant Surgeon and director of the Living Donor Kidney Program) and expertly assisted by Sarah Skeba (Hepatopancreaticobiliary Surgery PA-C). After extensive training, long hours and preparation, Dr. Carpenter and Sarah successfully completed this procedure. 👩‍⚕️
As a proud member of the American Society of Transplantation’s ‘Living Donor Circle of Excellence’, AHN remains committed to advancing transplant care, reducing barriers to living donation, and providing our patients with access to the latest surgical innovation. Milestones like this help us continue our mission of saving more lives through transplantation.
Thank you Dr. Carpenter, Sarah, and the rest of the AHN Abdominal Transplant team for making this milestone possible! 🤝
