“It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own.” : Marcus Aurelius

People-pleasing can look caring on the outside while creating stress, guilt, and resentment on the inside.

Emotional intelligence begins with self-awareness: knowing what you value and noticing whether your actions align with it. When our choices reflect our values, we may still face difficult conversations or disappointing someone: but we can experience greater peace because we’re living honestly.

Aligning values with actions is something therapist Elizabeth Ecklund, MSW/RN/IFSAC II FF teaches often, and it’s a core part of the work in therapy. Together, we can explore what matters to you, identify patterns that pull you away from your values, and practice choices that feel more authentic.
