You don’t need to know a name to spot our bowlers. Their swing gives them away every time.

At University Village, our Switch bowling league is packed with personality, and every single player has their own signature move. Some wind all the way around. Some barely lift an elbow. Some have earned nicknames because of it.

We are gearing up for our National League right now, but we could not resist showing off a few of the styles that make this team so much fun to watch. Consider this a preview of what you will see when National League play kicks off.

Senior living in Tulsa looks a lot more like this than people expect. Follow along to see what a day in the life at University Village actually looks like.

Four weeks ago these bowlers had never touched a Nintendo Switch. This week we crowned a champion.

Rolling & Resting takes the overall league title and closes out the season undefeated in head to head play. 3 Chicks & A Rooster weren't far behind, finishing 3 and 1 in head to head of their own.

Top score of the week went to The Switch Hitters with an 825, followed closely by Strikers at 813.

Final standings for our short in house season.

Rolling & Resting, 3048
3 Chicks & A Rooster, 3030
The Switch Hitters, 2989
Strikers, 2953
The Rookies, 2858
Fabulous 4, 2816
Lucky 7, 2733
4 Switcheroos, 2553

This short season was built for one reason. Getting our bowlers ready for the big leagues. National League play starts next week on the new systems, and we could not be more ready.

Also, happy U.S. Bowling League Day. We cannot think of a better crew to celebrate it with.

Everyone has a reason.

We asked a few residents what made them decide to move to University Village, and their answers said more than we ever could. No two stories were quite the same, but the feeling underneath them was. Comfort. Connection. Knowing you're finally in the right place.

Some visitors come to volunteer. This group came to compete.

The Oral Roberts University Women’s Basketball team heard about the UV Okies and wanted in on the action, so they showed up at University Village for a friendly Nintendo Switch bowling match. None of them had ever picked up a Switch controller before, but it did not take long to catch on.

What followed was four head to head matches full of cheering, hugging and high fives up and down the lane.

We loved having these ladies here, and the lane is always open for a rematch. Follow along to see what senior living looks like in Tulsa.

Apparently there are standards to sit at Phyllis’s lunch table, and we had to see for ourselves.

One comment, four bowlers, and the receipts to prove every one of them made the cut. Just another day at this senior living community in Tulsa, if you’re following along.

What does it look like when a room full of retirees decides no one going through cancer treatment should feel forgotten?

Every Tuesday, a group of residents at University Village gathers around a table for something they call Encouraging Cuffs. They spend the afternoon making bracelets, one at a time, for cancer patients they will likely never meet. Some are made in a smaller size, just for children going through treatment of their own.

Each month, those bracelets leave this retirement community in Tulsa and end up in the hands of someone having one of the hardest days of their life. A small piece of jewelry, made by someone who understands what it means to keep going.

Two points. That is what separated first and second place after week one of our in house league.

The UV Okies is still the team our residents call themselves.

For this stretch of the season, they break into teams of four to compete in house, and those same teams carry straight into National League play this fall.

It is also how everyone is getting comfortable on their brand new Nintendo Switch systems before it counts.

3 Chicks and a Rooster came out on top in week one, just ahead of Rolling and Resting.

J’Tonne, Phyllis and Marcia posted the top individual scores of the week.

Six more teams are still working their way up the standings, and this is only week one.

Eight teams. One Switch system upgrade. And a whole lot of new nicknames.

UV Okies is what our residents call themselves when they take on the rest of the city in Wii Bowling every spring. Once City League wraps, they break into teams of four for an in house league here at University Village, and those same teams carry straight into National League play together this fall. Thanks to a generous donation from Nintendo of America , this stretch is also how everyone is getting comfortable on their brand new Nintendo Switch systems before it counts.

Meet 3 Chicks and a Rooster, Rolling and Resting, the Switch Hitters, 4 Switcheroos, the Fabulous Four, the Rookies, Lucky 7 and the Strikers, eight teams from our senior living community in Tulsa ready to bowl.

You can follow it all right here as we post standings through the season.
