Healing isn’t always experienced as relief.

Sometimes, before life feels lighter, you become more aware of what you’ve been carrying.

You notice patterns that once kept you safe. You feel emotions you’ve had to push aside. You begin recognising needs you’ve ignored for years.
That can feel like you’re getting worse.

Often, it’s simply the beginning of paying attention.

If healing feels messy right now, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going backwards.

Sometimes, it means you’re finally giving yourself permission to feel what you’ve spent so long surviving.

There’s something special about finding a psychologist you genuinely connect with.

We’re lucky to have Breanna, Registered Psychologist and Board Approved Supervisor, consulting with us every Monday.

Breanna brings warmth, compassion, and over 13 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families. She believes that feeling heard and understood is the foundation of meaningful therapy, and she works collaboratively with clients to help them better understand themselves, navigate life’s challenges, and build lasting coping strategies.

Get to know Breanna on a deeper level in this week’s feature and discover the person behind the psychologist.

Stress and burnout can look similar from the outside, but they aren’t always the same experience.

Stress is often characterised by feeling overwhelmed, under pressure, or like there is simply too much to manage. While difficult, these symptoms may improve once the source of stress reduces and you have an opportunity to rest and recover.

Burnout is different. It can develop after prolonged periods of unmanaged stress and may leave you feeling emotionally exhausted, detached, unmotivated, or like you’ve lost the capacity to keep going. Sometimes, even taking time off doesn’t seem to make much difference.
Understanding the difference can be an important first step in deciding what kind of support you might need.

If these experiences have been affecting your work, relationships, or day to day life, speaking with a qualified health professional can help you better understand what’s happening and explore appropriate support options.

Which signs stood out to you most?

Sometimes, in the middle of busy schedules, endless to-do lists and daily stress, we forget to pause and notice what actually helps us feel grounded.

Maybe it’s:
1. Enjoying a quiet coffee in the morning
2. Going for a walk in nature
3. Reading a good book
4. Listening to your favourite music
5. Spending time with your pet
6. Connecting with someone you trust
7. Getting a good night’s sleep

The things that bring us calm can be simple, but they’re often the first things we stop prioritising when life gets busy.

Finish the sentence in the comments:
“I feel most calm when...”

Your answer might inspire someone else to slow down and reconnect
with what they need today.

When we think of self care, it’s easy to picture spa days, holidays, or expensive treats.

But often, the most meaningful acts of self care are simple, accessible, and completely free.

Small actions repeated consistently can have a big impact on your mental wellbeing.

Which of these self-care ideas do you already do?

High-functioning anxiety doesn’t always look like anxiety.

It can look like being the reliable one. The achiever. The person who always has it together.

But behind the scenes, it might feel like overthinking every decision, struggling to switch off, fearing mistakes, or carrying the weight of constant pressure.

Just because you’re coping doesn’t mean you’re not struggling.

You deserve support before you reach burnout.
