🚀 Health professionals: Looking for a way to accelerate a child’s progress towards functional goals?

At Stepping Forward Therapy Services, our Intensive Physiotherapy Programs provide focused, goal-directed intervention for children who may benefit from increased therapy frequency during key periods of skill acquisition, rehabilitation, transition, or preparation for participation in sport, school, and community activities.

We welcome referrals from GP’s, paediatricians, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, educators, support coordinators, and other health professionals seeking collaborative, outcomes-focused physiotherapy input for the children they support.

Our intensive programs can support goals related to:
🚲 Bike Riding
💦 Aquatic Therapy
⚽ Sport-Specific Skills
🏃 Developmental Milestones
🦽 Assistive Technology Training
🏥 Pre & Post-Surgery Rehabilitation

Each intensive is tailored to the child’s individual goals and can complement existing therapy programs while providing additional support when it is needed most.

📞 Parents can speak with their physiotherapist or contact clinic and health professionals are welcome to contact our admin team to discuss referrals, collaborative care opportunities, and current availability.

Wheels Day 🚲✨

At Stepping Forward, we recently held our very own Wheels Day! This day was all about building confidence, coordination, and independence on each child’s wheels of choice. Through fun, play-based activities, the kids explored skills including balance, steering, and navigating obstacles to improve their overall skills and independence!

There were plenty of smiles, lots of laughs, and some very impressive progress along the way!

A huge well done to all! 👏🏻

Encouraging your baby to turn their head toward their non-preferred side 👶

If your little one tends to always look the same way, these simple positioning changes can gently encourage more balanced movement throughout the day.

In this video we share 3 easy strategies you can start today:
1️⃣ Positioning toys on the non-preferred side

2️⃣ Adjusting sleep positioning (while always following safe sleep guidelines)

3️⃣ Switching sides during bottle feeds

Small, consistent changes can make a big difference over time — especially when started early.

If your baby has a strong head preference, reduced neck movement, or you’re noticing changes in head shape, a physiotherapy assessment can help guide you with personalised strategies.

Worried about your little one’s head shape? Here’s what to expect at a physio session for flat/uneven head shapes 👶✨

1️⃣ Getting to know your baby
We start with a thorough subjective assessment – asking about pregnancy, birth history, development so far, and when you first noticed the head shape changes.

2️⃣ Head shape measurements
We gently measure your baby’s head to assess the severity of plagiocephaly. This helps guide treatment and track progress over time.

3️⃣ Neck & full body assessment
We assess your baby’s neck movement (to check for tightness such as torticollis), head preference, and complete a full body screen to rule out any associated concerns.

4️⃣ Personalised treatment plan
You’ll receive an individualised exercise and positioning program tailored to your baby – including practical strategies you can easily do at home.

Before you leave, your physio will guide you on how many sessions may be needed and what progress to expect.

If you’re concerned about your child’s head shape or neck movement, book an appointment and let’s support your little one together.

Flat head shapes are something we assess regularly in paediatric physiotherapy 👶

If you’ve noticed a flat spot, a head preference, or your baby tending to look one way, you’re not alone — these concerns are very common. An assessment can help clarify what’s happening and whether any support is needed.

In this post, we outline:
• The difference between plagiocephaly and brachycephaly
• Common contributing factors
• When a physiotherapy review may be helpful

Many cases respond well to simple positioning advice and targeted exercises when identified early.

If you’d like personalised guidance and reassurance, you’re very welcome to book an appointment — we’re here to support you and your little one 💛
