Our Dietitian, Freyer’s thoughts on some popular food choices:

Spoiler: there’s usually no “bad” option 👀 Nutrition isn’t about perfection — it’s about context, balance, preference, budget, convenience, culture and what actually works for YOU.
Some choices may keep you fuller for longer, have more protein or fibre, or be more nutrient dense… but that doesn’t mean the other option can’t fit too.

Protein powder: usually more of an isolated and better quality source of protein compared to a protein bar. Great convenient option when intake is low or protein needs are higher.

Lentils over beef: high in fibre, plant protein, and great for gut health while still being budget-friendly and filling.

Fresh OR frozen fruit: nutritionally similar! Frozen fruit is picked at peak ripeness, lasts longer, and reduces food waste.

Eggs on toast over cereal: generally helps to keep energy levels stable for longer.

Cottage cheese over cream cheese: much higher in protein and typically lower in fat.

Peanut butter over jam: provides healthy fats and some protein, which helps with fullness and blood sugar stability.
