There’s often pressure in summer to feel “better” or more carefree. But emotional wellbeing doesn’t automatically follow a season. If anything, change in routine can sometimes bring up more internal noise, not less.

Gentle structure isn’t about control. It’s about creating small, reliable points of contact with yourself during a shifting season.

If this season feels nerve wracking for you, support is available when you need it: https://groundedpsychology.ca/

Happy Pride Month!! 🌈

At Grounded Psychology, Pride is a time for reflection, visibility, and care but also for acknowledging that safety, identity, and belonging are not experienced equally by everyone.

We recognize that for many in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, showing up authentically in the world and in therapy has not always felt safe. This is why affirming, identity-conscious care is central to how we work.

This month, we’re also proud to highlight Carmel, a therapist on our team whose presence and practice reflect a deeply relational and affirming approach to therapy.

Carmel brings both training and lived experience into their work, offering a space where clients can feel met with care, curiosity, and respect without needing to shrink or translate parts of themselves.

Pride, for us, is not just a moment of celebration. It is a commitment to ongoing inclusion, reflection, and care in how we show up for our clients and community!

Your nervous system is always working in the background to help you feel safe, even when it doesn’t feel that way.

Many of the reactions we judge ourselves for (overthinking, shutting down, people-pleasing, feeling anxious) are actually protective responses that were learned over time.

Understanding this doesn’t mean excusing everything—it means approaching yourself with more awareness and less self-criticism.

Regulation starts with noticing:

- What is my body trying to communicate right now?

Over time, small moments of safety can help your system feel more supported and less reactive.

Your identity isn’t something you either “have” or “don’t have.” It’s something that develops over time through experiences, relationships, and self-reflection.

For many people, especially those who learned to adapt early, identity exploration can feel unfamiliar or even uncomfortable. You might realize that parts of you were shaped by survival, expectations, or the need to belong.

That doesn’t mean you’ve been inauthentic, it means you’ve been doing what you needed to do.

Exploring your identity is about getting curious, not critical. It’s about giving yourself permission to question, shift, and grow into something that feels more aligned.

Feel free to book a consult with our therapist Heather to explore this further!

Procrastination isn’t laziness—it’s often connected to overwhelm, fear, or self-criticism.

The cycle of avoiding → feeling shame → more avoidance can feel exhausting and hard to break.

Understanding the pattern is the first step toward changing it and therapy can help you shift out of this cycle with more compassion and tools!
