It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Linda Barbara Roddis, of Grassmoor, who sadly passed away on 3rd August 2026, aged 82 years.

Carol was the beloved widow of the late Lesley Paul Roddis and will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Born in Matlock, Carol was a retired care assistant and had previously worked as a florist and seamstress.

Carol loved arts and crafts, knitting and reading and will be remembered fondly for the many happy memories she shared with those around her.

The funeral service will take place at Chesterfield and District Crematorium on Friday 4th September 2026 at 3.00pm.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Simpson, formerly of North Wingfield and latterly of Goldwell Manor Care Home, who passed away peacefully on 2nd August 2026, aged 98 years.

Rose was born in Hackney, London, but became a lifelong resident of North Wingfield. She was the beloved widow of Arthur Simpson and was loved and cherished by many.

The funeral service will take place on Friday 28th August 2026 at 11.00am at The Abundant Life Christian Centre, Tibshelf Road, Holmewood, followed by interment at Dark Lane Cemetery, North Wingfield.

Like many of you, I’ve been saddened and concerned by the recent news involving a funeral director in Hull. I completely understand that it may leave people feeling anxious about who they can trust at one of the most difficult times in their lives.

As an independent funeral director, I want to reassure you that caring for those who are entrusted to me is not just my profession—it’s a responsibility and a privilege that I never take for granted.

Every person in my care is treated with the same dignity, respect and compassion that I would expect for a member of my own family. From the moment your loved one comes into my care until the day we say our final goodbye, I personally ensure they are looked after to the very highest standards.

I am proud to be a member of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF). Membership means working to a strict Code of Practice and my business is independently inspected every year to ensure those standards are consistently maintained. I believe this gives families added confidence that their loved one will always receive the highest level of care and professionalism.

I know that trust has to be earned and I believe families should feel comfortable asking questions about how their loved one will be cared for. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Malcolm Staton, of Pilsley, who passed away peacefully at home on 12th July 2026, aged 76 years.

Malcolm leaves his beloved wife, Kay, his dearly loved children, Claire, Helen and Richard and his seven cherished grandchildren, Ella, Charlie, Tia, Archie, Luke, Jamie and Esme.

He will be remembered with great love and warmth and his kind character touched the lives of so many.

A service to celebrate Malcolm’s life will be held at St Mary’s Church, Pilsley, on Friday 31st July 2026 at 1.00 pm, followed by interment at Pilsley Cemetery.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr Geoffrey Needham, of Doe Lea, who passed away peacefully on 4th July 2026, aged 77 years.

Geoff was well known throughout the local community, having served as General Manager at PCS for many years. In his younger days, he proudly served in the Army as a tank driver. He treasured family holidays and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A service to celebrate Geoff’s life will be held at Chesterfield and District Crematorium on Wednesday 22nd July 2026 at 12:45 pm.

Father’s Day is not the same for everyone.

For many, it’s a day spent making memories. For others, it’s a day spent holding on to those already made.

I’ve had the privilege of hearing countless stories about fathers who were loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. Today, I join those remembering a dad who is no longer here.

I miss my own father every day and Father’s Day brings both gratitude for the time we shared and sadness that I can’t share another day with him.

If you’re celebrating today, I hope it’s filled with love and laughter. If you’re remembering someone special, I hope their memory brings comfort and reminds you of the lasting impact they had on your life.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Iris Grainger, of Holmewood, who passed away peacefully on 17th May 2026, aged 95 years.

A service to celebrate Iris’s life will be held at All Saints Church, Heath, on Wednesday 17th June 2026 at 11:00am, followed by interment in the churchyard.

It is with sadness, we announce the passing of Kevin Twell of North Wingfield, who passed away on 7th May 2026, aged 69 years.

The funeral service will take place on Friday 5th June 2026 at St Lawrence Church, North Wingfield, at 1:00pm, followed by interment at Temple Normanton Cemetery at 2:00pm.

It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of Reverend Michael Guest on 19th April 2026, aged 74 years, a lifelong local resident.

Michael’s ministry included All Saints, Heath and Renishaw Churches and he will be remembered for his love of sport, writing, reading and theology.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Helen, daughter Victoria, son Adam, and four cherished grandchildren.

A service to celebrate his life will take place at All Saints Church, Heath on Monday 11th May 2026 at 11:00am, followed by interment in the churchyard.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Watkinson of Temple Normanton, who passed away peacefully on 16th April 2026, aged 86 years.

Peter was a much-loved and familiar figure in the Temple Normanton and Holmewood communities. A devoted pigeon fancier, he took great pride in his birds. Known to many as the “blue van man” and reliable odd job man, Peter was always willing to lend a helping hand and was a friendly face to all who met him.

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A private ceremony will take place.
