We are pleased to confirm the date for Village Surgery's annual flu vaccination clinic. Eligible patients will shortly be invited to book their appointment.

Booking your appointment

01 - Look out for your invitation
Booking links will start being sent to eligible patients from next week by SMS / AccuRx.

02 - Follow the booking link
Use the link in your message to select an available appointment.

03 - One appointment per person
Please book one individual appointment for each eligible person attending.

Limited appointments & vaccine supply
We have a limited number of appointments and vaccinations available this year. Appointments will therefore be offered on a first come, first served basis. We encourage eligible patients to book promptly when they receive their invitation.

Who is the clinic for?

Our 10th October clinic will run two separate patient cohorts:

Patients aged 65 and over, and eligible at-risk patients aged 18–64.

Care Home & Housebound patients
Please do not worry if you are an eligible care home resident or genuinely housebound patient. We will be organising these vaccinations separately from mid-October.

These patients will be contacted separately with arrangements for their vaccination, so there is no need to book into the Saturday clinic.

💉 2026/27 FLU VACCINATION CAMPAIGN – COMING SOON! 💉

Village Surgery is currently busy planning our 2026/27 Flu Vaccination Campaign.

We are looking to hold a large-scale Saturday Flu Clinic in October, with a potential date of Saturday 10th October 2026.

📅 Why October?
This year, we are unable to begin administering flu vaccinations to eligible patients until 1st October 2026. Saturday 10th October is therefore the first suitable opportunity for us to arrange a large-scale vaccination clinic for our patients.

Over the next few weeks, our team will be completing the final preparations for the campaign, including confirming vaccine deliveries, clinic arrangements and eligible patient groups.

📱 What do patients need to do?
Nothing just yet! Once arrangements are finalised, eligible patients will be contacted by the practice with information about how to book an appointment.

• Our page
• Waiting-room screens and practice promotions
• Messages sent directly from the practice

We will provide further information as soon as our clinic arrangements are confirmed.

Please do not contact the practice to book your flu vaccination at this stage – we will contact eligible patients when appointments are available.

Cervical Screening Saves Lives – Have You Booked Yours?
A few minutes could make a life-saving difference.

If you've received an invitation for your cervical screening (smear test), please don't put it off. Cervical screening is one of the most effective ways of preventing cervical cancer by identifying changes in the cells of the cervix before they become cancerous.

At Village Surgery, we encourage everyone who is eligible to attend when invited.

Who is eligible?

People with a cervix are routinely invited for cervical screening:

Aged 25 to 49 – every 3 years
Aged 50 to 64 – every 5 years

You will usually receive an invitation from the NHS when your screening is due.

What happens during the appointment?

Your appointment is carried out by one of our experienced healthcare professionals in a private and confidential setting.

The test:

Takes around 5–10 minutes
Is usually quick and straightforward
May feel a little uncomfortable, but should not be painful
Checks for high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV), the virus responsible for almost all cervical cancers

If HPV is found, the sample is checked for any abnormal cell changes. Finding these changes early means they can often be monitored or treated long before cancer develops.

Common concerns

"I'm embarrassed."
Our nurses perform cervical screening regularly and will do everything they can to help you feel comfortable and at ease.

"I don't have any symptoms."
Cervical screening is for people who feel well. It helps detect changes before symptoms develop.

"I've had the HPV vaccine, so I don't need screening."
The HPV vaccine offers excellent protection but does not protect against every type of HPV. Regular cervical screening remains important.

"I'm no longer sexually active."
If you are eligible for screening, it is still important to attend unless you have been advised otherwise by a healthcare professional.

The NHS Pharmacy First service allows trained community pharmacists to provide expert clinical advice and, where appropriate, supply NHS medicines for a range of common conditions.

Pharmacy First can help with:
Sore throat
Earache
Sinusitis
Infected insect bites
Impetigo
Shingles
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in eligible women

Pharmacists are highly trained healthcare professionals who can assess your symptoms, recommend treatment and advise you if you need to see a GP or another healthcare service.

When should I still contact the GP?

Preparing for the 2026/27 Children's Flu Vaccination Programme

Village Surgery is preparing for the 2026/27 seasonal flu vaccination campaign.

Although clinics have not yet been confirmed, we are now beginning our planning to ensure eligible children can receive their vaccination as early as possible this autumn.

At this stage, we are asking parents and carers to register their interest if their child falls into one of the following eligible groups:

Children aged 2 and 3 years (on the eligible qualifying date)
Children aged 6 months to 17 years who are in a clinical 'at risk' group
For most eligible children, the seasonal flu vaccine is given as a quick, painless nasal spray, rather than an injection.

Why is the flu vaccine important?
Flu is much more than a heavy cold. It is a highly infectious virus that can make children seriously unwell and can lead to complications such as chest infections, pneumonia and hospital admission, particularly in children with underlying health conditions.

Having the flu vaccine helps to:

Protect your child against seasonal flu.
Reduce the risk of serious illness and complications.
Help prevent flu spreading to vulnerable family members, including babies, grandparents and those with weakened immune systems.
Reduce pressure on NHS services during the busy winter months.
The nasal spray vaccine has been used safely for many years and provides effective protection against the strains of flu expected to circulate this winter.

What happens next?
Our flu clinics are currently being planned and will be confirmed once vaccine delivery schedules have been finalised.

If your child is eligible, we encourage you to register your interest when contacted by the practice. We will then invite eligible patients to book an appointment as soon as clinics become available.
