☀️ Stay Safe in the Hot Weather ☀️

With temperatures expected to remain very high over the coming days, we'd like to remind everyone to take extra care in the heat, particularly older adults, young children, pregnant women and those living with long-term health conditions.

🌡️ Hot weather can increase the risk of:
• Dehydration
• Heat exhaustion
• Heatstroke (a medical emergency)
• Worsening of existing heart and lung conditions

💧 Top tips to stay safe:
✅ Drink plenty of water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty.
✅ Stay indoors or in the shade during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm).
✅ Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if outside.
✅ Use sunscreen with a high SPF and UVA protection.
✅ Keep your home as cool as possible by closing curtains or blinds in rooms facing the sun.
✅ Avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.
✅ Check on elderly neighbours, friends and relatives to make sure they are keeping cool and well hydrated.

💊 If you take regular medication, continue taking it as prescribed unless advised otherwise by a healthcare professional. Some medicines can increase the risk of dehydration, so make sure you're drinking enough fluids. If you're concerned about your medication, please speak to your pharmacist or contact the surgery for advice.

⚠️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion:
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Feeling sick
• Excessive sweating
• Muscle cramps
• Fast breathing or pulse

Move to a cool place, drink water and cool the skin. If symptoms don't improve within 30 minutes, or if someone becomes confused, loses consciousness or has a very high temperature, call 999 immediately as this could be heatstroke.

Please take care of yourselves and look out for those who may be more vulnerable during this period of hot weather.

Stay cool, stay hydrated and stay safe. 💙
