You know him as the head coach of the Albany Patroons, who's won championships as both a player and coach with the team. When Derrick Rowland was diagnosed with prostate cancer two years ago, he decided to fight the disease privately. The emergency department is a front line of addiction, and St. Peter’s has been trying something new: offering a particular expert right in the emergency room– CRPAs, which stands for Certified Recovery Peer Advocate. CRPA's are individuals who went through recovery themselves and are there to support patients in the early stages of their recovery.

It can be up to 13 times more powerful than morphine, and is available over-the-counter. Dr. Angad Madan, medical director for St. Peter's Addiction Recovery Center, tells WNYT it's the number one new substance addiction they're seeing in the Capital Region.

Meet Greg Banner, MRI Technologist at St. Peter's Hospital. We are grateful for Greg’s dedication and excited to see where his career takes him!

“I have worked as a Radiologic Technologist since the fall of 2017. I started at St. Peter's in the summer of 2024 in the CT department as a traveling technologist. I quickly realized a few things: I have an amazing group of coworkers who are extremely talented and make me laugh daily, and my experience and knowledge are valued here. This is the kind of place I had been searching for in all my years of traveling throughout the country. After my contract ended, I transitioned into the MRI department as a full-time employee of St. Peter's Hospital. With an amazing team of MRI technologists, I was able to hit the ground running and quickly pick up on the complex physics and safety requirements of MRI. It feels great to know that I am contributing a valuable skill set that aids in the diagnosis and treatment of thousands of patients in the Capital Region. I feel very fulfilled working at St. Peter's and am very excited to continue to grow my career here!"
