We saw this mother’s pain because someone recorded it. Across rural Nepal, similar struggles happen every day, far from cameras and public attention.

Whatever the investigation finds , no woman should ever have to give birth outside a hospital if they don’t want to. And healthcare (especially emergency health care) must serve every Nepali: rich or poor, rural or urban, connected or forgotten. The healthcare system must care for everyone across the country. In these days of mourning, I am sharing this song written and sang by my friends in memory of those we lost in the floods. It gives voice to the grief, remembrance, and sorrow that words alone cannot express. May those we lost rest in peace, and may their families find strength in the love surrounding them. This problem belongs to all of us and its solution is all of us.

I beg you, Nepal doesn’t need pity, Nepal needs the world to understand why this happened and why countries that contributed the least to the climate crisis are carrying some of its heaviest human, economic, and infrastructure burdens.

Nepal produced roughly 0.05% of global CO₂ emissions, yet it is paying an unimaginable price for a climate crisis it did almost nothing to create.
