🍃 If you’ve called The Annex looking for help, there’s a good chance Anden Suárez picked up. Anden has been with The Annex since it opened its doors, and anyone who’s worked with her knows this one was a long time coming. She’s trained to work with complex trauma presentations and de-escalate high-acuity crises, studied Psychology at Brown University, and is on track to finish her B.S. in Counseling & Addiction Recovery Sciences at Texas Tech, the clinical grounding behind that warm phone manner.

CLINICAL SPECIALIZATION .. Miranda Hayes is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate with experience in inpatient psychiatric and community-based settings, supporting adolescents and adults experiencing acute psychiatric needs, mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorders, suicidality, and trauma histories.

During her time in inpatient care, Miranda provided crisis-oriented treatment, including individual counseling, group facilitation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to support stabilization and patient safety. She also has extensive experience supporting survivors of sexual trauma through individual counseling and crisis hotline services, and holds a Sexual Assault Training Program Certification.

Miranda partners with clients to increase emotional awareness, strengthen regulation skills, and develop practical coping strategies, empowering them to navigate high-intensity situations, build resilience, and foster lasting wellness.

It is rarely a coincidence when mental health issues and addiction appear together. Identifying a co-occurring disorder can be tricky because symptoms often overlap. However, you should look for:
🍃 Using substances to deal with difficult memories or emotions.
🍃 A history of mental health treatment that didn’t lead to lasting sobriety.
🍃 Sudden changes in behavior, sleep patterns, or social circles.
🍃 Feeling unable to function “normally” without the use of a substance.

The Annex Treats Co-Occurring Disorders 🍃 It is rarely a coincidence when mental health issues and addiction appear together. Usually, the relationship functions in one of three ways:
🍃 Self-Medication: Individuals may use drugs or alcohol to cope with the symptoms of an undiagnosed or untreated mental illness (e.g., using alcohol to quiet anxiety).
🍃 Brain Chemistry: Substance abuse can trigger changes in the brain that make a person more vulnerable to developing a mental health condition.
🍃 Shared Risk Factors: Genetics, environmental triggers, and early childhood trauma can contribute to the development of both disorders.
