Congrats to Luis Taveras, PhD, Executive Vice President and Chief Digital and Information Officer at Jefferson, on being recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as a health system digital officer to know!

From leading Jefferson’s digital integration effort that expanded from 18 to 33 hospitals, including unifying 10 intranet platforms into a single platform – Jefferson's ONE digital workspace – to launching innovations like “Virtual Checkout” and scaling generative AI across the enterprise, his work is transforming both patient access and clinician experience.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, but a few simple habits can make a big difference. ☀️

Here are three things we're doing to help protect our skin in 2026:
• Wearing sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days
• Finding shade when spending time outdoors
• Checking the UV Index before heading outside

UV exposure can happen year-round, and higher UV levels can increase your risk of skin damage even when it doesn't feel especially hot outside.

Taking a few moments to protect your skin today can help support your long-term health. If you notice a new, changing or unusual spot on your skin, get it checked at Jeffersonhealth.org/skincancer

Jefferson Methodist Hospital will reopen on Saturday, May 23 at 7 a.m. after a power outage on Tuesday evening led to its temporary closure. The reopening follows authorization by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. With power now restored, Jefferson Methodist will resume its critical operations in South Philadelphia ahead of the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Many thanks to the colleagues and partners whose tireless efforts ensured our patients got the care they needed, and who worked around the clock to reopen quickly and safely.

To recognize the reopening and commitment to the South Philadelphia community, we invite the public to attend Jefferson Methodist Hospital's Annual Health Fair on Saturday, June 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees can enjoy free screenings, health information, refreshments and family-friendly activities.
