Nearly 50 years ago, Susan Sullivan and her family received the call that changed everything: a donor cornea was available at Wills Eye.

Susan began seeing shapes and colors again after years without sight in her left eye. She still remembers how vivid everything looked on the car ride home.

Keeler has generously committed another year of support for our Give Kids Sight Day event, which provides underinsured and uninsured Philadelphia-area children with free eye exams and eyeglasses. At our most recent Give Kids Sight Day on October 3, we had several volunteers from Keeler on site to help make the event a success.

New this year, the company will also support our School Screening Program, through which we will soon screen our 100,000th student in partnership with The School District of Philadelphia.

Wills Eye team members on site at the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting accepted a donation from Keeler and celebrated another year of partnership.

Thank you to Keeler for their ongoing commitment to helping further our mission to protect and preserve sight!

Dozens of Wills Eye Hospital physicians are serving as presenters, panelists, chairs, and instructors at the 2026 American Academy Ophthalmology annual meeting in New Orleans this weekend.

AAO President and our Peter and Ruth Laibson Cornea Service Chief Endowed Chair and Chief of the Wills Eye Cornea Service, Dr. Christopher Rapuano, delivered remarks during the conference’s opening session, after which Dr. George Spaeth, Director Emeritus of our Glaucoma Service, received the Academy’s 2026 Laureate Award.

Several of our experts shared insights during Meet the Experts sessions at our exhibit booth, and we hosted a Residency Meet & Greet for attendees to learn more about our top-ranked program.

At , Wills Eye faculty and alumni will be recognized for their outstanding achievements. Among these prestigious honors are the Laureate Award and Guest of Honor Award.

Dr. George L. Spaeth, director emeritus of the Wills Eye Glaucoma Service, will be honored with the 2026 American Academy of Ophthalmology Laureate Recognition Award in recognition of his exceptional scientific and leadership contributions to eye care and the prevention of blindness.

Director emeritus of the Wills Eye Cornea Service, Dr. Peter R. Laibson will be a guest of honor awardee in recognition of his significant contributions to ophthalmology and the Academy.

Hundreds of Philadelphia-area children received FREE eye exams and eyeglass prescriptions at our 17th annual Give Kids Sight Day event on Saturday. Since 2009, Give Kids Sight Day has provided free eye care to more than 14,000 children.

Our CEO and Ophthalmologist-in-Chief, Dr. Julia A. Haller, shared: "Our incredible team of volunteers come back year after year because they are committed to protecting and preserving sight for the next generation. These kids leave feeling more confident and capable because they can see clearly and have been given a critical tool for success: strong vision.”

The event was hosted in partnership with Thomas Jefferson University, The School District of Philadelphia, and the OneSight Essilor Luxottica Foundation. Sponsors of the event include Bausch + Lomb, Glaukos, 4Kids2C Fund in Memory of Ronn Fletcher, Dakota, GIANT, and Dr. Zeff and Rosa Lazinger.
