Thank you to Duane from First Aid Training Group, it was another great refresher on First Aid Training and CPR last night.

Lots of laughs were had, but a great opportunity to reinforce our first aid knowledge and experience. It was also great to welcome Justin Allison back to join us.

You can rest assured that you are in good hands with Team LHG!

A well-designed exercise program can assist with balance and mobility. This is because the role of the brain is so important in coordinating movement and the brain responds well to practise (neuroplasticity).

Other benefits, depending on the type of exercise, can include increased muscle strength, better cardiovascular fitness and better function.

Talk to us to find out the best approach for you, and to see how we can design an exercise program specific to your needs.

Health care to get you back to your best and doing what you love.

Thank you to Arsan from Shine Lawyers for the great inservice yesterday around medicolegal requirements.

Our focus was on WorkSafe and TAC clients, plus report writing. Lots of great takeaways on how we can further support our patients through their recovery.

Jamie has a strong clinical interest in the assessment and management of complex/persistent pain, spinal pain, headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and vestibular conditions.

Yesterday, he took some of our physiotherapists through another great spinal tutorial.

We are very thankful and appreciative for his active involvement in clinical education.

Is it time to update your runners? You may have clocked up some serious k's around the lake and your shoes are a little worse for wear.

Some points to consider:

👟 Mileage: Most running shoes will generally last between 500-900km. This depends on a lot of factors including surfaces, your weight, weather and shoe materials.
👟 Bend Test: This is done by holding the two ends of the shoe and bending the shoe back on itself. If you can do this easily the midsole of the shoe has likely compressed and lacks its original cushioning properties. If so, update your shoes.
👟 Tread: If the tread (the sole of the shoe) has worn, and the wear is uneven, it is time for a new pair of shoes. This could also mean that you have some abnormalities in your walking or running pattern which could also be assessed by a podiatrist.
👟 Uneven compression: Due to different materials in the shoe and individual gait patterns during our walking and running, shoes can compress unevenly, leading to a change in the dynamic support of the shoe. You can check this by looking at the shoe whilst on a flat surface and see if the shoe “leans” to one side.
👟 Pain: If you are experiencing pain when walking and running, getting your shoes reviewed and likely updated is a great place to start. This will help give your podiatrist a greater understanding of what could be causing your pain and discomfort.

Ticking any of these boxes? It might be time for an update this weekend.

Did you know that we have an onsite gym in our clinic? 💪

Our gym is fully equipped for all Lake Health Group patients who need rehab exercises to return to full health. Whatever your everyday goals, our Rehab Gym provides the facilities for you to achieve your goals.

Having your own personalised program is essential to fitness, strength and functionality. An assessment by our physiotherapists can identify the weak links in your body system and individualise a program to help improve your functional fitness.

Your program will be based on:

🔹Functional tasks, within a specific environment. This means mimicking actual tasks that are important to you, such as digging in the garden, or improving agility on the sporting field.

🔹Your injury history

🔹Best available current evidence to achieve the best outcomes.

🔹An individualised and goal orientated approach. This will give meaning to your program as it will be specific to your needs and injury history.

🔹Flexibility, core control, endurance, strength and power requirements.

🔹Principles of dosage, frequency and periodisation. Let your physiotherapist guide you through how many ‘reps’, ‘sets’, ‘duration’, and ‘times per week’ will
achieve the best result.

🔹Feedback on your technique and program needs. We have the ability to rapidly make small alterations to your program which can make a big difference to your outcomes.

Health care to get you back to your best.
