Self care is vital for our mental and physical health so why do so many of us struggle to make time for it ??

Raised in a world where burn out is a honour and giving your all all the time is seen as standard makes it extremely hard to push back.

Self care is an act of rebellion against a standard that is outdated and impossible to maintain.

Creating a self care routine can be difficult , that little voice telling you 'you should be' but in reality we need to rest, to play, to have fun and do things for no other reason than we want to because its these things that revitalise us , reset us, detox us from modern life.

Getting things out of your head can be really powerful.

Writing things down such as plans, goals, or even letters to those we either can't speak to or feel unable to soeak to for various reasons can be an extremely powerful way of making sense if thibgs.

Writing a journal or a letter can help you process much of the emotional content contained and may help you feel calmer or more focused on situations.

In therapy, we can use letter writing or empty chair scenarios to help you make sense of what's going on inside.

All of these things are normal.
However, for some clients, they can come very intimately linked with shame.

Not knowing , crying, and not performing to perfection are all common triggers for shame to enter the room.

Allowing space for exploration and acceptance can help clients to move through their feelings and come to accept that crying, not having all the answers is ok , its human and in my therapy room its very much allowed

Nice is saying yes when you mean No, its betraying yourself to keep the peace.

Kindness, on the other hand, draws a line and says gently this is my limit.

Kindness allows us to love ourselves and others simultaneously without sacrificing up a part of us in the process.
