This World Transplant Day, we recognise the donors who make transplantation possible, as well as the patients, families and healthcare teams behind every transplant journey.

For some patients with severe kidney or liver disease, a living donor transplant can offer benefits including a shorter wait for a suitable organ and the opportunity to receive treatment sooner.

Vascular embolisation is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat conditions such as fibroids, internal bleeding and certain tumours by controlling abnormal blood flow to the affected area.

Performed through a small skin puncture, a catheter is guided through the blood vessels to deliver targeted treatment while helping preserve surrounding tissue. The procedure is supported by a hybrid imaging system to aid visualisation and guidance.

At the Radiology Department, Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, our interventional radiologists work closely with a multidisciplinary team to tailor care for each patient.

A kidney transplant is more than just a procedure. For some, it's a gift of life.

Diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune disease that attacks the kidney, Jian En reached a critical point, with his future and quality of life at stake. With his only options being dialysis or a transplant, he was close to losing hope โ€“ until Jing Hui stepped in, offering to become a living kidney donor.

Living donor kidney transplantation (LDKT) offers a life-changing treatment option for patients with kidney failure, supported by careful assessment, surgical expertise, and long-term follow-up care.

5 years on now living healthily with their growing families, Jian En and Jing Hui's story symbolises a remarkable bond, as well as the courage behind every successful recovery.

As World Transplant Day draws closer, we recognise not only our patients' stories, but also those of living donors โ€“ whose gift of life makes these journeys possible.

Read more about their life-saving friendship:

When Jian En's kidney disease reached a crisis point, it was a colleague-turned-brother who gave him the ultimate gift โ€“ a second chance at life.

Life doesnโ€™t have to stop after a diagnosis.

With more adolescents and young adults facing cancer, survivorship is becoming an increasingly important part of the conversation โ€“ not just medically, but emotionally, socially and personally.

Rebecca Oh, a cancer survivor, sheds light on the reality of survivorship as she shares her journey of resilienceโ€”from diagnosis to recoveryโ€”and how this led her to create the supportive community โ€œStrong Oliveโ€ for younger cancer patients.

These are also conversations we explored at ๐˜“๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜“๐˜ช๐˜ง๐˜ฆ 2026, a public forum organised by Mount Elizabeth Hospitals and Parkway Cancer Centre, covering topics on cancer survivorship โ€“ the emotional and mental challenges, its impact on relationships and daily life, the importance of support for patients, and how hope remains possible beyond it.

Diagnosed with endometrial cancer, Rebecca Oh thought the hardest part would be treatment. But surviving the disease was only part of it โ€“ navigating life as a young cancer patient was harder, a gap she now fills through Strong Olive, the community she founded.

What if abnormal brain signals in movement disorders like Parkinsonโ€™s disease and Touretteโ€™s syndrome could be regulated with a device similar to a pacemaker?

Watch Dr Nicolas Kon explain how Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) works and how it may help patients when medications alone are no longer providing stable control of symptoms.

Your heart supports every step, every rush, every long day. Looking after it isnโ€™t just about reacting when something feels wrong โ€” itโ€™s about protecting it long before problems appear.

Over time, unmanaged stress, overlooked symptoms, and conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes can quietly weaken the heart and lead to heart failure.

Swipe โžก๏ธ to discover five habits that strengthen and protect your heart.

When heart failure progresses, treatment today may involve more than medication alone. In selected advanced cases, a left ventricular assist device (LVAD), a mechanical pump that supports blood circulation, may be part of a comprehensive care plan to restore function and quality of life.

Is your diet working for youโ€ฆ or against you?

Small everyday choices can have a long-term impact on liver health. Over time, factors such as diet and lifestyle habits may influence the risk of conditions including fatty liver disease.

Swipe through to see whether your food choices are helping your liver stay healthy.

For some patients with advanced liver disease, care may extend beyond prevention and early intervention to include treatments such as liver transplantation.
